Not sure of anyone in your area but I know the old method was to score the glass and put a little lighter fluid on the scored area light it on fire then work it back and forth until she gives but thats glas back in the day that didnt have a laminate inbetween to prevent it from shattering.  But I've only read about doing it not actually done it.

Sorry, you cant modify stock side glass or rear on your dakota. Its tempered and any attempt will shatter it. Tho only glass that you can modify on your truck is the windshield, because its laminated. Thats why it only gets chips when rocks hit it. Laminated  glass has two layers of glass with a layer of laminate in the middle to hold it together. Side glass is tempered and is made to shatter in to small pieces in case of an accident instead of big glass shards that could kill ya. I am assuming your doing a chop on your dodge. I did a regular cab dakota last weekend. There are ways to make the stock glass work, or you could have somebody make glass 4 it, but that costs big bucks. If your planning a chop i say go for it, but plan all your glass and do some research before you even look at your sawzall. Unless you like roadsters. I hope your doing a chop because rhats alot of typing, LOL

I have been told you can't modify tempered glass but have found people who have successfully done it. They just all happen too be on opposite ends of the country. I tried a method and had some success but then got carried away and busted the window. I know there are a few glass guys on here just dont remember their names. The scoring and burning you guys are refering too pertains too laminated glass aka windshield. Thanks for the help so far guys.

If its possible to cut tempered safety glass, i want to know how. Ive searched for ways to do it, but have never seen or heard of anybody do  it succesfully. What was the process you tried?

Ive been a Glazier for 7 years now.  You cannot cut tempered glass.  Ive heard of taping the line you want to cut, and sandblasting thru the glass slowly, but that seems like an insane amount of work, and I think the heat would pop the glass long before you got what you wanted.  You can use your stock glass and just deal with it not fitting when its up, which is common. You can use plexi and just deal with it being scratched when its rolled up.  Or you can have glass made.  Ive never done this for a compound curve like your side glass would be, and Ive heard its expensive. Im sure Hemmings would have a place or two that could do it.   Bush

Ive called water jet places about tempered safety glass (which should be cool temp wise) but they said it isnt possible. They said all other type of glasses are possible, even curved laminated windshields. It would be nice if it was possible, it would open alot of doors for new car or truck chops!
