I just picked up a 86 b2000 with a bad tranny for 300 and got a tranny for 60. Ima ride for a while stock bc of an undecided swap. But im inquireing on which is the better swap. SBC or the rx7 13bt. Im going vert and chopping the top off but i was also woundering where is the best place to get drop spindles and springs.

Small block ford ftw. Don't do spindles. You can lay it out on 18s with stock spindles.

could some people who have done conversions please chime in with suggestions? I am contemplating the samething..only I was thinking about doing a 4.3 or toyota 22r. My concerns arent really about fitting the engine, I am more concerned with little things like speedometer, fuel guage, headlights and tailights, do I need to change the whole fuse block when I put in the new ECU...stuff like that.

Im thinking about this right now. I have a 305 and auto out of a 1992 Firebird, low mileage. I want to put it in a Mazda, maybe a Toyota. But, I was also thinking about a rotary for a mazda. IDK, I"m kind leaning toward the small block cuz I have it already.

I'm actually doing a 4.3 swap in my mazda right now.I would be doing  a ford 302 if I hadn't gotten my 4.3 so cheap.I am switching to carb so there will be bare minimum of wiring to do. I am running a fuel cell and an aftermarket gauge.headlights and tail lights will not be affected by the swap.I'm hoping to be able to adapt the speedometer cable to work.I will be running a 700R4 trans.SBC will require moodifying the firewall for distributor clearance and you will need to mount the radiator in front of the core support.

Not planning on laying it out. My plan is to drop the front down on 15" cragers with 215-50-15 tire and drop the rear down on 16" cragers with a 235-55 16. problem is i dont know which swap im going with. Im leaning toward a sbc bc i was getting ready to build my 350 into a 383 stroker motor with a blower and put a 5 speed behind it. But i may go with the 700r4.

nick we should get up with each other. Im in raleigh, nc. maybe we could hook up and i could get a chance to check out a started project and figure out what it is ima do. and where to go with the swap. I just want to create my own beast. Hit me up tommarrow if you can. My number is 919-665-8645 ask for brandon

yeah Nick that is basically what i was planning to keep simple. But i kinda like the idea of keeping a motor fuel injected so i will need the ECU also...not worth the trouble?

Now for sure the better swap is a SBC/Ford over a Rotary, but not because of the power, for the price a rotary could cost you in the end to get that amount of HP. Now if you are running fuel injected the best swap is the Ramjet 350 from chevy, but if you are on a budget, I would suggest a 302 FI from a Mustang and many others had it. Easy, clean swap. I have done swaps and have a mazda with a SBC now.

i have played with several rotary's im a tech for mazda..... and you couldnt pay me to mess with that swap....   the rotary motor is soooooo wide and big.  i think you might have a hard time layin out cus it is so wide but that is just a guess though.  As you guessed it the problem is the wireing....  those rotary motors are throw away motors man and there really highstrung... so be prepared to have problems with it stock or otherwise...  it would be pretty cool but I wouldnt even mess with it..  id just go sbf or sbc... both motors have huge aftermarket support and would be super easy to put in.....  and prolly cost you half what the rotary would cost to install....  your talking about a grand for someone to sort through the wiring and then custom fabbed mounts tranny and motor....  and then you forget about the turbo piping and some one will have to be uber handy with the tig to make new piping prolly have to go with a top mount manifold to make space because thats where your ac is.... then youd need to fab up an intercooler mounting spot.....  would be fn awesome!!!  hells yea.... but i hope your one hell of a fabricator or really good friends with someone who is......  oh then your gunna need boost controllers turbo timers  a whole lot of electronics........  well i hope i didnt scar you to bad,  just want you to know what your thinkin about gettin yourself into.....  about 6 mos worth of work and tuning......
