I just picked up a 99 f150 extended cab, v6 auto. my question is will it pull my longbed 73 c10 on a trailer without any issues? anyone else tow with a similar truck? also I don't have a reese hitch, just the factory bumper and trailer ball mount. looking up the specs on the truck says maximum towing capacity is 8000lbs butit also says normal towing capacity is only 2000. just making sure I won't have any problems pulling it

I'm thinking theres no way in hell that truck is gonna wanna tow that amount of weight. that engine is gonna work itself to death not to mention the trans. I would also NEVER EVER tow on the the bumper mount. those are fine for hauling a lawn tractor around but not a trailer with that kind of weight get a proper hitch and a reciever with torsion control.

well I know my c10 and trailer combo won't be anywhere near 8000, probably be more like 4000. and I'm not too worried about the bumper mount because my dad towed my isuzu and several other larger vehicles with the bumper mount on his 80 bronco. I'm just moreso concerned about the braking and handling with the truck and trailer on the back

hmm well that sucks. I really like the truck and I don't want to get rid of it already. I really don't want to get into a motor swap either. any suggestions?

what kind of rear end does it have?factory tow package? look at the vin sticker in door for axle code. I used a 2004 f-150 w/ a 3.55 lsd  4.2v6 to tow a 6000lb boat with a class 3 hitch and electric brakes about 50 miles  did fine but had no balls on flat land. I would do a little research especially towing a truck would suck to wreck both trucks. how far you towing it?F150 axle codes19 – 3.55 Non-LS18 – 3.08 Non-LSH9 – 3.55 LSB6 – 3.73 LS

Eric,     I looked on a website called a towing life and buy what you have said your truck has a towing capacity of about 4500 to 5800 lbs depending on things like is your truck a 4x4does it have a towing pakage. Like most of the guys have said DO NOT USE A BUMPER HITCH. Get a good class 3 hitch min.,a break controler in the cab and a good weight dist. hitch. You and your truck will be much safer. When it comes to towing do not skip on things. Like one of the guys said if you plan on towing alot buy a truck with a v-8 and a towing package weather that be a 1/2 ton to a 1 ton.

well that sucks. kinda wish I hadn't of gotten it now. I could have just got a mini to drive daily then. and the only times I planned on towing my truck was to far away shows since I plan to drive the c10 to shows in state. well thanks for the help guys, looks like I'm back to where I started
