Wow tim that sucks to hear.  I know that it was said about the coil packs and sparks plugs but when is the last time you changed the fuel filter.  Also if the truck has been sitting for a over a month there is a chance that you could have gotten condensation in the fuel and it would turn to water.  I have an 01 navi with the same motor and I changed the fuel filter because it was bogging down like yours.  I also checked the o2 sensors because if it does this it will defintely burn up your o2 sensors, if it not caught in time.  Do you get your gas at the same station all the time?  Another thought I had is that could be just from sitting and not being run that the fuel went bad try going to other stations in your area and mixing up the fuel.   Sry for the book but i hpe this hlps.

yeah thanks bro. i'll have to check out the fuel filter. i just put fresh 93 in it but it didn't help. the only thing that helps is when i spray MAF cleaner in the intake.

sounds like the notorious coil packs. this has become fords new problem in the last few years. my dads 04 150 had some problems with them and 2 went out on my moms 02 lincoln ls about 6 months ago. cross my fingers my 98 hasn't had any problems but i know its going to happen sooner or later

yeah i see thats the trend with these motors. now is there a way to figure out which one's are bad?

trust me buddy i worked for ford go an talk to someone at ford an tell them you feel you may have a bad coil pack they can hook up the scanner an get the waves off the coil packs to see if you have a dead one or not dont have a heart attack when you have to buy one they aint cheap LoL also if you have a blow gun try this first one by one take out the pack blow out any trash that may have found their way down there then reinstall the pack you will need a 7mm socket to remove the packs if you come across one with oil or water in it bingo then you have a new set of problems if you dont find any like that an you blow out the hole an it still does it speak to a ford tech or someone who knows fords they are very tempermental

mine was having a issue, did a scan and a cylinder misfire, running lean, knock sensor was reading off. All of this right after my driver side cat went out and sounded like abunch of rocks clanking around in there. Changed all the plugs and the DPFE sensor

change all your coil packs and i bet thats the problem i had a mis for a while and i finally changed all the coil packs and now she is running great . don't bother going ot ford to get them though i would just go to a parts store i got all 8 for about 340.00 and it was well worth it

Its usually not a bad coil pack that goes bad, its the boot on the coil pack that goes bad. Overtime the boots break down and allow moisture in which damages the plugs. You can buy the coil pack boots from Ford and they are a whole lot cheaper than buying the entire coil pack. Be sure and change the plugs when you change the boots. It is a common problem with the 5.4's and i have fixed numerous trucks this way.
