I'm wondering if any of you have ever tried or seen a hydraulic setup that uses a large accumulator/s to pressurize the system instead of hydraulic pumps. The accumulator could be charged by an engine mounted hydraulic pump when pressure gets low. A clutch similar to an AC compressor could be used to make or break the mechanical connection as needed. Most accumulators are rated at 3000- 5000 PSI with flow rates much higher than anyone could safely use in their cars. With the right adjustments it would behave much like air in that you'd be limited to the amount you could play before pressure is too low. However, since accumulators charge faster you could be back sooner than with air. I've done some calculations and depending on how much horsepower your willing to use for your pump (when it's charging), and flow rates, and accumulator size, you could be fully charged in seconds. To speed up or slow down your lift no batteries would be needed. Only variable flow control valves.

that would be cool to see...inovative.

Lenny Gruver's hydraulics on the green s10 he had ran off the power steering pump like a hydroboost setup.  I think he adapted it from a snowplow set-up.  He did that like 15 years ago.  I'll see if he still has a profile on here.

Could'nt you use a PTO type setup. They run off the transmision, something similar to on a tow truck.

what you would  use is called a p.t.o.. a power transfer output. search it youll get what you want. we use them on trucks for hydraulic acces.
