I too think it depends on the paint job.  And even if the guy isn't that well known then wouldn't that be more reason to put his name on something that looks good so his shop starts to make a name for itself? I don't mind ppl tagging their work, I think it's good for business.  My dad has pinstriped since the mid 70's and has always put his name and number somewhere on whatever he does.  It may be so discrete that you would hardly notice it, but it's there somewhere.

I am not ok with it. anything other than a discrete set of initials i would consider an advertisement. If a shop or painter wants to settle an argument or brag thats their problem. I am not dropping big money on a paint job for the shop to advertise. Custom shops usually always take detailed pictures of thier work in order to show new customers what they can do. Its part of any businesses marketing efforts. If a shop wants to be known for producing one of a kind masterpieces then they should do somthing that is hard to be copied. Isnt that what seperates the artists from the rest of us?

I would only be ok with it if I wanted to support that painter. The same senario that comes to mind is when dealerships put their logo on your car. I didn't ask for that and your not paying for the advertising space on my car. So unless I have "OK'd" it then don't put stuff on my car. It all depends on the situation, but overall... I'd say con

Well that's great! You just told us what I think we can all agree on. The shop should ask permission first. I'd be a little pissed if I wasn't consulted ahead of time but I've also given my reasons why you would allow it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just comes back to how you feel about the shop I guess. If you haven't already clearly agreed to something you can maybe ask for a small 'discount' in exchange. But be prepared––some people may just expect you to go along with the plan and if you don't want to support that shop, then tell 'em "no."

I always get permission and only tag things in a way to compliment the job....as ive seen with Brian and Sean's work as well its not just a logo stuck out in the middle of a beautiful paintjob, some of us take the time to make it a part of the look. I never tag a solid color job for the most part either

I hardly ever like the tags to be honest

I'm an artist myself, and I understand like Brian and Charles Armstrong wanting to leave their mark on the "canvas" but at the same time, I am still paying for it.

That being said... would I let them tag my truck? If I was doing a solid color - no, if I was doing graphics - maybe...

Depending on how well the job turned out determines whether or not it gets my signature, lol!

If its done tastefully Im all for it.  Seen a painter & body tech sign their signatures on a tacoma they painted flames on once.  Right in the front edge/middle on the hood.  Looked kind of weird to me.
