OK so let me speak from experience! I was the guy who had my rear brakes in the bed of my truck for a year and just was to lazy to install them. I felt that I didnt need them because I always allowed extra distance to stop. WRONG! listen to me when I say that the first thing you should make sure is working BEFORE you go test drive your truck should be your safety equipment. One sunny day I was driving home after a long day at the shop and some old bluehair decided that she was going to stop at a yellow light. Wasnt a panic stop by anymeans and had I changed my rear brakes I would have had plenty of time to stop BUT! I didnt... What people dont realize is that your front brakes apply 75% of the stopping power when they work in conjunction with your rear brakes... When your rear brakes are inop they are forced to take on the entire 100%...Tests by BMW show that If you were to loose your rear brakes your stopping distances from 60 to 0 are more than doubled.. I can attest to this!! To bad it took me smashing in the front end of my Hilux to install the brakes.. NO MODIFIATION IS WORTH YOUR SAFETY..

Another issue is if you get in an accident and they find out that you never had rear brakes you could be f*cked.

My nissan it had no back brakes. I drove it for quite some time before I realized there were not even any brake lines back there. When I bought it, I was told the proportioning valve was bad and you had to watch stopping in the rain. I never had any real issues but it got sketchy with sudden stops in rain and if there was loose gravel in the road. Once I fixed it, you could tell the difference.
