what is the typical length in bodydropping rangers? laying frame, how far do i need to go to lay rocker?

On my 99 it was a 2.5" Z and a 2.5" trad body drop...you will have to replace the tranny crossmember to lay frame....

on my 03 i did a 2.5"z and 2.5" bd. i channeled mine. i have a small 1.5" hump in the floor. still stock seating. im building a frame when a toyota clip it then a smooth cab floor. just did it for now. i have no clue how to post pics here. motor will fit under a stock edge hood if you build motor mounts and lower the motor and move it back a tad. of course you will have to build a tranny x-member or mod yours. im on 22's so i had to tub the firewall a tad, new booster, move my clutch master. any questions just ask. josh

Yeah, i've got the tranny cross member and i plan to soon. i planned to channel mine also, it just seems cheaper for now and easier to do. i got a pretty good idea of how to do it, i just didn't really know how far to go. those pics would be nice if you can get them up or you can just send them to devilx000@peoplepc.com. thanks for the info. is a 2.5" really neccesary? i was going to z about 2.25".

i dont remember right off if it was neccesary. i just know its what took to lay a 255/30/22 tire. my upper arms are djm's and there pie cut. they are almost verticle when layed out. never payed attention to if it was 1/4 inchfrom lang the front out. i z'd mine because it was quick. worked fine for what i wanted to do with it. only downside is the carpet fit is horrible.... add me on myspace. http://www.myspace.com/draginjosh   got most the build pics on there. josh

When you said that you z'ed the frame cause it was quick, that brings me to another question, can a z be done in a weekend with the motor still in. i think it can but some of my buds think it can't.

You can z a truck in 1 day with the motor in if you know whats up........I z"ed mine 2 inches then did a 2 3/8 sfbd...i just wanted the bend the pinch 1/2 way under and not have to cut it off...I didnt wanna go all the way to the rockers. If your gunna take the time to bd it you should really just sfbd it, you could keep your back half and just do the rails under the cab...... I have some freshly sprayed djm uppers that are pie cut and have brand new balljoints for sale!!!$$$

oh yea. its way possible to do it in a weekend. i z'd mine, and built motor mounts and a tranny mount in a weekend. with the motor in. i z'd the back half of mine to keep factory mounting on my bed to. josh

how long did it take to channel and what kind of things should i be on the look out for? does anyone have pics or a tut on the Z process. i remember seeing a tech article in truckin mag when they channeled a fullsize. i think i got a good idea on but a little extra knowledge always helps.

i have pictures of my z on my myspace. i re bagged mine z'd it and bodyd it in a llittle under a month just working after i got off my full time job and some weekends. things to look for, keep your channel on the driver side a bit wide so you can keep the fuel filter in the factory location. re do your exhaust and move your o2 sensors a little different then factory. also try to get your muffler out from under your cab. also if its a standard dont burn the clutch line! its a bitch to find one. i just went to a longer f150 one. depending on how much you gotta tub your firewall you may wanna run your main harness threw the passenger side. extend a ton of wires but looks better and less of a headache. i think thats about it. its real easy man. you can lower the body mounts and cut your channels and cut the tranny tunnel out in a day easy. josh
