There is a 383 stroker motor on another forum i am thinking about buying and it sounds like it has been built with some pretty solid parts, but like my title says, i am kinda motor retarded. Can someone look at this and tell me if it is a good deal or not? It would be going in a 1969 c10 if that matters. The ad reads as follows:
Start with a 1989 Truck 350 block, 4 bolt main, 1 piece seal, full roller cam shaft. Block was completely done over by Golen Machine (clearanced for the crank, magnafluxed, shotpeened and cam bearings install). Add a forged 383 Callies crank and 8.9:1 pistons (for turbo or blower).Add a GM "Hot Cam" with new roller lifters and valve springsAdd GM Vortec "Fast Burn" aluminum headsSCE Copper cored head gaskets.Add Jesel Shaft Mounted roller rockers in stainless.Pete Jackson "noisy" gear driveAll aluminum tin - Valve covers, timing chain cover, etc.It currently has a Edelbrock Air Gap 4150 style intake on it.I built three of these, 2 with iron Vortec heads. This one I built my GMC truck so it got a little extra attention..3000 - priced for a very fast sale. There's more then that in the valve train alone.I also have a Ramjet 350 intake that could go with this for an additional 800.00. Includes all the sensors on the intake. I also have mechanical (the block will drive one) and electric fuel pumps that could go with it.I can include a Barry Grant King Demon currently set up for 750CFM with the complete tuning kit for another 500.00.

for what i've got in my motor so far, i'd think that's a good deal. lol

I am no expert, but like he said... those heads have to be close to that $3000 mark. Price some aluminum heads, they aren't cheap.

it looks like he has close to 5k in the parts alone. so It seems like a good deal, you just have to find out if all the parts he listed are new or if he just threw some used shit together. I've been on the receiving end of that before and believe me, its not fun

well i sent the guy a message and asked him about the block and the rest of the parts on the motor as well as shipping. here's what he said: "Everything beyond the block is new. Never run, never installed in anything, beyond test fitting in my GMC. The only reason I used a used block is that they typically are better in the long run... they call it a "seasoned" block, as it's already done all the expansion and contraction that changes a block's dimensions. The heads, crank, cam, pistons, rings, bearings and all other wear-ables are brand new. Shipping to Lake Charles is about 300.00." sounds pretty legit. what you guys think?

sounds lie a good engine with a lot of good high dollar parts in it, but, since the compression ratio is set so low for a blower or turbo, it definitely wont live up to the potential of all the really good parts that are in it. throw a turbo or blower on that thing and WATCH OUT !!! should make BIG power. even with compression that low, its a great price.

This is an honest 450hp motor without it. Slightly better then a ZZ383 from GM Performance Parts. It's also built to handle it. With it, depending on what you went with, it's closer to 800hp. It will also handle nitrous all day long. <!-- / message -->"

def sounds like a good deal those heads are some good money You could procharge that motor or bolt on a roots style and make nasty power Found this at http://www.kocoa.com/supercharger_size_recommendation.htm Supercharger Size Recommendation Chart
