This might be a dumb topic/qusetion, but I was just wondering how you guys and others pay for/save up to build all the awesome rides, such as the ones you see coming out of shops w/ $5K bag jobs. I know that's not the case on all, but just using that as an example. I know the obvious is to work and pay for it, but even with my decent salary, it will take a WHILE to save up for the things I need done (new wheels, paint, some interior, and a little suspension/metalwork). I was thinking about taking out a loan to get some stuff done. I know it's not the best idea, just wondering if anyone else has done the same. My bad for the long rant..

Work your ass off, trade what you can, and just have lots of patience... it doesn't happen over night and neither does the cash flow...

i have to save money for a while, find good deals on parts and then do all the work myself

Patience is the key.  When I was younger I had to save a lot.  Now I have a great job that allows me to do what I want.  I'm sure there are others out there that have worked their ass of and now reap the rewards of it, I know I do.  Don't take a loan for it, its not the way to go.

i still have a long way to go on my truck, but i started doing it the wrong way a while back. i had so much available credit and i was buying everything! now i have a lot of debt and a truck that i'm still putting together. lol. i'm trying not to use my credit cards for anything except for like gas and food here and there. the hardest thing to do is pay off debt and try and build a truck, and i just bought a house too. so many bills. but it will come some day. i should have listened to my grandpa a long ass time ago: "If you can't pay for it with cash, you don't need it."

Most shops make their money on labor, so if you are doing most of the work... you save money. Then you can pay a shop to do the things you can't, such as paint, bodywork, or interior.

Over the course of 5 years, I became the banks best friend.  It's all about paid for in full now but, depending on how bad you want it, you must choose your own destiny...I have no negative comments on using credit cards, loans, piggy banks, or whatever the case maybe, it's  all money, most of us will always have debt for the rest of our life..I'm now trying to pay some debt up so I can go right back in it again with a new project...I wish I had an extra income but, no...But my bank has given me some good rates so I wasn't so bad...but I too always enjoy reading on how others has done it as well... But like many others above have said, it takes ton of patience and keeping the burning desire to finish something you started. peace...

I built my sendon truck on bags just out of high school and while I still lived at home. I had a custom pain bags ans some engine upgrades. Not that I am married and have 2 kids and a house....totally different story. My proirities have changed 100%. My wife does not work and it all on me.It is very hard to save any money specially since I am still in school. At this time the only thing I can do is trade work because the ca$h is not there to spend it.

Work and be smart with the money you do have. And I use that motto myself too.I refuse to get in debt. I have 1 credit card and it's max is $300.
