alright now heres the issue with this.you cant shoot the single stage and just clear it like basecoat.you will have to shoot it let it fully cure sand it with 1000 or 1200 grit usually and then clear over it.now here comes the problem being that yours is a metallic your going to be sanding the metallics in the paint possibly making the color blochy or uneven.then also shooting the rest of the truck at a later date as long as the paint is from the same mix meaning mix enough now so its all shot with the same batch.BUT the metallics might look different in the sun because of different spray times and the metallics not laying the same.i have done what you want to do with solid single stage colors and your right it does look very deep.i wouldnt recommend it with metallic single stage colors

first dont sand with 1000 or 1200 before reclearing it will delaminate id sand it with 6-800 grit but you cant on a metallic single stage and i really dont think your gonna get much depth out of doing it like that just base clear it

some single stages ( depending on the brand ) you can mix a certain ratio to clear for your last coat for more shine and better holdout though i don't advise it. if your going to clear over it you should just use reg base anyway.... Base coat/ clear coat is the way to go. If you like the look of single stage and you want to do your box later, if its not that much later no one is going to tell the difference in slight color fade cause your box is away from the exterior panels. plus a buffer and some polish will shine the outside right back up! If your ride is garage kept and always buttered single stage can stay nice for a while if you maintain it. if the color you want is only available in single stage contact the paint company or jobber store the should be able to cross reference something close in base coat or spray it out and get a camera shot on it. -Brad-

I have always done 600 grit for base and 800 for clear
