i have the all mighty 5 speed and i have noticed that when im going through the gears i have some tranny slippage. i can hit 1st ok, then 2nd with alittle slippage, 3rd the same, 4th etc. when im in 5th i can ease into it and its fine but at speed (lets say 65) i can floor the pedal and the tach just plummets, all i get is high rpms. until i ease off, then it re-engages at the speed i was at. i asked my buddy who helped with the tranny install and he was filling it with penziol synchromesh tranny fluid and the remaining was 80W-90 gear oil (like youd use in your rear differential) cause it says you can use it in manual trannys. the masses, would this non-"required" fluid cause slippage?



"the dealer said gimme a ka-zillion dollars and we will diagnose it" go figure

throw out bearing, flywheel & pressure plate are all new, less than 600 miles

for a 5 speed? that doesnt even come close to what i have read. i keep reading over and over again synchromesh, from the dealers $16 a bottle to the $8 pennzoil at autozone. damn

sounds like the clutch is wore out mine did the same thing would slip in 5th but if im easy it wouldnt slip

and yes it takes synchromesh2.5 or so quarts

ok, so even tho i installed the clutch, pressure plate and bearing less than 600 miles ago, you all think its that?
couldnt at all be the fluid mixture? guess thats what i get for shopping at autozone

ive been running rear end oil in my trans since mine was leaking and i was mixing different weights and never had it slip, my trans only slipped due to the clutch, but your clutch can be slipping since you probably didnt let it wear right because you need to be easy on a new clutch, did you resurface the flywheel or put a new clutch on it?

the rear main seal on the motor or input shaft seal on the trans could be pissing oil onto the flywheel/clutch, when you replaced the clutch was it clean in there?

Also check for a bad slave hanging up every so often letting the throwout ride on the pressure plate, air in the line to the slave, leaking slave getting brake fluid on the clutch if the slave is an internal one, also next time your driving and it starts slipping on you check to see if the brake fluid in the clutch master is really hot in some rare cases it can expand and make the slave cylinder move.
