What do I need to know? Pro's vs Con's, tips on how to do one, anything about them really.

Ive never actyally done a roadster, but I considered it for a minute. The reasons I held off are that you have to park it inside all the time, you cant leave it out in public (like a mall parking lot), and you cant drve it in lousy weather. If I had more garage space Id be all over it tho, one of the guys I hang out with has one, and not much gets noticed more than a bodied roadster cruising an inch off the ground!

Thanks for the input.

I have a garage spot to keep it in and I am worried about the getting caught in bad weather.

My old mans hot rod is a roadster, not a truck but alot carries over between the two. Weather will dictate how much you wind up driving it more than anything. Having indoor parking is a must and an interior that can handle getting wet will be needed too. Nobody plans for rain driving in a roadster but I can guarantee you it will happen at some point.

You will probably need to beef up your cab a bit to handle the loss of structure that happens when the roof comes off of it. Your shoulder belts will no longer work so you will have to plan for something else there. If your planning to chop the windsheild down that will add to the expense of the job as well.

The other big thing I can think of is that it will restrict your resale to a much smaller market of ppl if you should decide to sell down the line at some point. Not everyone likes roadsters or has an indoor spot to keep one so your buyer market narrows considerably.

Hope this gives you some stuff to think about, good luck with the project man.

thanks. I appreciate the tips and advice since your old man has one.

I'm wondering what it will cost to get the class cut to the size I am wanting.

Anyone know of a build thread that shows some good steps on doing one?

id love to roadster mine let alone get a hardbody and make a roadster, i have always loved the look of those but the whole worrying about parking it in public if needed too and the weather are what made me have second thoughts even though it isnt a daily driver i still get iffy about doing it. maybe one day

Maybe it rains less in Tx. I have a roadster truck and I wish everyday it had a roof. If you cut the top off make the old roof and tops of doors into a removable hardtop. You'll be glad you did.

you dont have to park it inside all the time. Thats a myth that people who dont have or never had a roadster believe.

You just need waterproof interior, guages and electrical. You must treat it like its a boat. Do everything planning on it getting wet. Use neoprene on the seats or some other waterproof material.

you will have to reinforce the door frames to keep it from flexing, unless the doors dont open.

when driving in the rain if you keep moving your fine.

you dont have to cut the glass if you lay the A pillars back.

I agree on the hard top thing. Ive had more than one roadster and there are times when you want the roof on... like winter...

All of the above is true. I rarely drive my truck during the winter months because of the cold. I keep mine in the garage. You will get a lot of attention from it, but as said above, you are very restricted if you ever plan to sell. My truck has a small cage to reinforce the lack of roof and I also use a 4 point harness for a belt system. Cruising in the summer time makes up for lack of drive time during the winter. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

my recommendation would be to start with an suv. saves alot of trouble with some of the structural issues. We have roadster in our club (sunset sd) and it is fun and like they said nothing gets more attention than a bodied roadster mini.
