Here is a pic from google earth of my house. We just found out we can't get the huge house with a 4 car shop that my wife's uncle was trying to sell us, so i'm going to try to talk her into refinancing so i can build a shop. The only problem is, the house is on top of a hill (front yard slopes down, back yard slopes down hard) and there's a wood/hobby shop beside the house. The floor at the back of the shop is about 4 foot off the ground (the original builder left a 2x2 1/2' hole at the back of the shop, underneath the shop is the dog house). Also, there's a 3 phase electrical system running along the fence to the right of the house, i can't build anything permanent within 10 feet of it. The end of the concrete pad is 10' 1" from the pole, so a shop would be in violation if i put it on that side of the pad. I thought about tearing down the shop and building one i could drive a car in (but bigger) where that one is, but my wife said no. So is there anywhere on the lot i could build it? The back yard's out of the question, it's too steep. To the left of the house is fairly flat, but the wife said no on that as well. What do i do? Oh yeah, my house is the one in the middle with the concrete pad beside it and the dead back yard (i have to kill it because it's too steep to mow with my mower). And if anyone can save this pic as a file so i could draw on it with microsoft paint to show what i'm talking about it, i'd appreciate it, lol.

well, you said the back is too steep. the wife wont let you put it on the left side. so that leaves the front yard and the right side. since im pretty sure you dont want it in the front yard, youre stuck with putting it were the woodshop/hobby shop is

how steep is the back yard? say in 20' how far does it drop off?

you could dig out the slope forthe shop have the front at the lowest point and dig into the slope to make it level ..or you could build a retaining wall ...but the other way is cheaper

have somebody come level out the rear even if its a step down and you have to build a wrap around driveway from the left side to the rear. im guessing all the dead grass is yours so id say drop it down even if its a 5 foot or so drop. make a fence and a path from the back yard to the shop. kinda like a subway stair style tunnel down to the shop.

Yeah, I'm thinking either add to the wood shop or doze it and put the shop there. The bottom of the back yard is about 20ft below the ground at the front of the shop, and the back yard is a half acre long.

Well I guess your only option is to get rid of the wife and build next to house lol j/k
