Toyota spindles are cast steel ,You can weld to them if you prep them right ..

Did you have to preheat it or just sand it smooth and weld?

The two tacomas that I have seen with spacers for their spindles have broken those bolts due to stress. Also do the bolts for the rack and pinion clear or do they still drag?

hey someone finally read the tech article i did years ago...lol.
brian incorrect bolts and incorrect support on the spacers will cause bolts to break.
using home depot bolts on suspension is a no no....ive have done a few tacomas...lol. few are more than 8 years old and running the same equipment as when it left the shop.

So the Spacers are ok to use with the proper bolts? I don't read tech articles haha

Use 10.9 grade bolts and you will never have a prblem .. also the spacer that is use will make a world of diff.. mine are made from a piece of 1"x 2.5"x4" steel with the rings being used top and bottom .. ive ran them on my tacoma for about as long as Bobby has and ive also done many tacomas the same way ..
