well I think I've got it figured out I started chase'n wires and low and be hold I found a spot that has alot of wear and gottin hot so I cut out and replaced all the wires that looked bad 5 total and what they go to?

coolent temp, throttle posision, and one to the map

I knew that my problem was in the cts and the tps but I don't think my map has ever worked right sents I built the engine. I think if this fixes the problem I'm going to retire my cobbled up, burnt wire harness. anyone know where I can get a new ECM wire harness? I'm probly going to have to have one made.

Saw your post in the other section about the battery, I will say that I had a 5.7 TBI acting up with a weak battery, had a very slight miss at idle and when you floored it, had a bog, fall flat on its face. But if you rolled on the power slowly it had plenty of it...

Anyway glad you found what is most likely the issue.

well the saga countinues
after having my litt battery issues and thinking that was the problem! it's not.

so AFTER changing battery and fixing wire problems and sensors I've came to the conclusion that I've got a grounding problem or my ECM is going belly up so I bought one of them high dollar scaner/ readers. so once I figure out how to use it I'm going to take it out and get a reading onit

yee f# haw

well,I started going through all the grounds cleaning them up along with sensor conections so I started to unscrew the intake bolt in the back that holds all the ground wires for the engine (pain in the ass to get to) so I decided I'd pull the dist. cap out of my way and low and behold what do I find? carbon lots and lots of carbon and goug markes from the rotor and the rotor was all scared up. being that its a new cap and rotor it was easy to see. I've been down this road before
the upper bushing in the distributor is gone letting the shaft to move around as its turning thus grounding out on the electronic pick ups. and heres the kicker, the only time you can get it to kick to the side is if your pushing up the shaft like the cam does wwhen you get on it so you can spin it by hand and it spins freely but if you push up and spin it lockes up

here's where your going to laugh at my ass
I'd ordered up a new MSD distributor and I've been waiting for it to get here, but I had it in my head I was going to put it in untill I figured out what was wrong with my truck. not wanting to add any more problems to the headach that I already had going

well I've got that new distributor in and my truck has never ran this good it building lots of power I've been out beating on it for a couple hours and no problems have came up other then one little one thats an easy fix! LOL!!!
THIS THING IS A TIRE FRIER FOR SURE NOW! but I did find a weak link when I lit up the duals out infront of the house U JOINTS need a couple new ones

Man...wtf

When I saw more posts on this thread I was getting ready to ask you how your full coverage insurance on the truck was looking. OK now that you have it fixed I'm ready to whore it up.

My yard dog, the 98 C3500 crew has a Vortec 7.4 with either leaky injectors or a bad FPR, it starts on the first turn when it's cold but after it's warm you can just about run the battery down trying to crank it. Buddy of mine was over here, dirtbag wrecker driver, laughing at me as I beat that thing to life one day, and of course when it finally cranks it just stumbles into an idle while dumping a black cloud out of the pipes. He's calling it a pos, then I proceeded to show him it can light up almost 500 pounds worth of wheels and tires (load range G 245/70/19.5's on Frito 19.5 steelies)and leave some serious black marks, and that's with over 1,000 lbs of weight directly over the axle in the form of the wrecker unit so it's not like it has a traction problem he shut up quick.

Hey did I tell this story already? If so then I blame teh d0p3.
