let me give you a little insite from what I've learned about factory springs
their a progressive spring: meaning the closer you get to the center the softer thay become
so if you cut one coil off the bottem your ride becomes softer and you start to lose the abilaty to support the weight

far as buying droped springs DON'T buy the cheepest ones you find
its way cheeper to buy the good stuff then it is to replace the junk on the second round

You laugh, but I swear to you I know a guy who actually did that.

Back in the day, I had a buddy with an S-10. He heated the springs so much, on the passenger side the last two coils were banging on each other and making a weird popping noise.

SO HE WELDED THEM TOGETHER!!!

Like I said, ride quality be damned.

Oh hell ya! Before I mono leafed my Mazda (how's that for old school) I was running 6" of block in the back. Two 3" blocks stacked on top of each other. Anyone who is familiar with a Mazda knows that the lower shock mounts are attached to the bottom spring plates. Yeah well, running a 14" wheel and 55 series tires, I made short work of those. To top it all off, I unbolted my exhaust just in front of my cat so it would "give me more power" (in a mazda ) and so it would sound like I had a Flowmaster on it. MULLET POWER!!!

When he finally noticed, my Dad was sooooo pissed. He made me pull all the blocks out and bolt my ehaust back together. He actually bought me mono leafs and put a Flowmaster on it because he was afraid I'd kill myself in my 'Death trap'.

My Dad's cool, he taught me the difference between half-assed/scary and the right way to do something.

yeah, a buddy of mine bought a little project truck, and who ever owned it before, removed the torsion bars, and the shocks, and welded a small ass spring in it's place....... lol, rides like a broke wagon....

now let me tell a getto moment
this was on my first chev pick up I was 15yrs old (this was also before you could buy lowerd suspension for any thing)
I was going to dearch my rear springs before my dad got home from work
well Ipulled the springs out and had the main spring lay'n upside down and Istarted to heat it up with a rosebud untill it went flat (I would have had better luck with flat bar ) through it back together let the jack down real quick and bang both springs broke and there it set rear bumper on the ground and the floor jack stuck dad was not impressed when got home



heres one more I made spring compresors out of flat bar and allthread well my mom and dad went to reno for a weekend and I thought it would be cool to drive my dads new vw rabbit (lowerd ) yea it was cool untill I went over some railroad tracks and one of the spring compresore came apart and the allthread went into the sidewall once aging dad was happy

Yeah, when I was 16, DragNasty was hammered with a 5/7 drop.....heated coils in the front and a flip (no notch) rear with home made drop shackles. Best of all was that I had 15x10 bulletholes with 275/60/15 tires. LOL Dad wasnt happy....suprised?
