z-ing the frame

My question is if I z the frame on my squarebody will I be close to laying body? If so how many inches do I have drop and do I have to relocate anything?

I have a 88 square crew cab dually I am doing right now. With a stock frame layed out the body should be about 3 inches off the ground I believe. Z-ing the frame will not help with the body. All z-ing will do is guarantee you to completely lay frame without the chance of hitting crossmember or lca's before frame. I am going to do a sfbd on mine to lay body.

Talk to liljlowrider. He knows a lot on the squares and how to get them to lay. I bought the chassis I am doing from him so I could still drive my truck while I setup the chassis.

I know on the 1/2 ton square body, they sit pretty damn close to the ground with just a "z". Not sure if that helps you any.

If your wanting to lay body on a 1 ton square body you need to Z the frame 6" and shave 4" off the bottom of the frame under the cab. On a 1/2 ton square body you do a 4" Z and shave 2" off the bottom of the frame to lay body. Other things will be need to lay it out besides just a Z, drop spindles and possibly control arms will be needed depending on the size of tires you run.

z 6 inches and shave 4 inches off the bottom of the frame? nuts to that! when its time i'm just going to build a new frame...

You dont need that big of z!!!!!

x2 just run some 2x4 in the bottom of the frame and cut the top just like normal. Lower your body mounts and cut the frame horns. Typical SFBD, much easier than a Z and cut the bottom.

If you put the 2 x 4" tubing on the top part of the frame & cut the bottom half off you won't have to body drop the bed. I haven't seen a 1 ton square yet that didn't need a Z to lay flat, so you'll need to Z it if you were to take the 4" off the top side of the frame and want it to lay flat.

on my truck, the drooly project on here in the underconstrustion section i did like he said. i was already guna hafta z it anyways so i did it that way. you dont have to move any of the body mounts and can have a stock depth bed floor and use a normal hitch on the rear ect. it worked out great on mine
