whoever said that traditional is basically the same as channeling its not. when you channel a truck its kind of like a combination of stock floor and traditional. to channel it you would lower the bodymounts on the frame the disired amount and cut the floor for the frame to rise up into and build a channel in the floor to cover the frame. but i would say it wouldnt be a good choice for a dually becuase you would probably end up with a really tall channel in the middle of the floor.

...hmmmm, good thing I asked. The road is finally clear of salt and snow as a shitload of rain we had recently washed it all away. You can't drive this truck in the rain or even on wet roads, it's just too powerfull and gets mad squirrely...that and it sounds like a pro stock dragster barreling down the road cause the mufflers are blown out of it, (pics of those soon), and it has a lumpy-ass cam in it.

The truck is now at the shop and I am getting to it.

So even with a mild channel (if there is such a thing) i'd still have two big humps in the floor?

Looks like i'll be breaking out the measuring tape tomorrow.

Also any idea of how low you can get before you start running into the front lugs hitting the wheel opening of the front fenders?

Thx guys i'm going to start a project thread within the next day or so. The SD 4 link is here, 7" & 8" Slam Bags, cups, brackets, misc steel tubing. All set for blast off.

Oh ya I see you guys running alot of parallel 4 links inside the rails due to the huge tire issues out back, any difference between running them inside rather than outside? Mini truck guy...never had to...lol.

Later...and thanks. Look for the new project thread.

Theyre yanking your chain bud, hes prolly talking about lows truck that has been down there forever.

I think a channel is where you cut the floor out directly above the rails and drop the truck over them then sheetmetal a huge nasty looking hump in your cab...

Id love to do it but i think im gonna hold off on bodydrops for awhile, kinda like to do jobs that take a couple weeks and get me paid on a more regular basis. Why is everyone afraid of a sfbd frame on a dually? Theres more room under it so you can go with a 4'' rail, id even double the rails like i did on my pre taco.

I'm with guilty on this. You could even use a 4x4 if you were nervous.

Not a sfbd problem, it's a cash problem. the owner has spent ALOT over the years on this truck, lots of people have taken advantage of his generosity. He is a very very good friend who has seen me through some rough times, so as a favor I am doing all this work at my cost. I get no cash for myself, he pays for parts and I put them on.

I have booked enough quick work to last through the winter, so we waited till the time was right to attack his ride. So if I channelled it I figured it'd be easier than building a frame from the firewall back. I need to get this in and out in about two-three weeks for the suspension, then move it over in to the body shop section and start on getting it straight and painted.

This will be a in between doing other stuff and weekend kinda job. I was thinking about doing a small channel job for him, till you guys told me about those big ass rails. With the chop top on this thing I figured laying if flat would look killer. But I am willing to just bag it and get it as low as I can without getting too crazy.

He isn't in a rush to get it back, as long as we get it done for summer. When this is done I move onto my 59 bug, then start accepting work again.

Looks like I will probably just bag it and 4 link it with a notch, and keep it simple.
