Give us some more insight as to what happened to the dmax....man that thing shoulda still been tickin at 400k miles....but if you are seriously considering spending 30k on a motor then my suggestion would be to hop on Mautofied or ebay and find you a badass duramax already bagged for less money that that....you can prolly find one bagged on semis for less than 30k and most likely its already gonna have alittle motor work too.....hell a guy listed a murdered out dodge on here a fes months ago with compound turbos for 30k and it was bad ass.....didnt have 1600hp but it was ready to go.....i believe it had around 800hp which is more than youll ever need

well the motor has 121,000 miles on it. i know my ol man had a f350 with the 7.3 in it non turbod and when he bought it it had about 150k and when he got rid of it last year it had over 840k no shit. i have some pics of it somewhere. and i swear that thing ran as strong as the day he bought it. but as for my heap lol i drove it for about two weeks. it was in the winter when i bought it and when i drove it home i notice the heat was hot and cold and hot an cold. so i figured worse case scenario was headgasket. the chevy garage told me that i was nuts that it would have been a thermostat. so i ordered one cuz none of the autoparts had them and before it came in the next day i started my truck up ran in the house for about ten mins. when i came out there was antifreeze spraying all over the pass tire. it was gurgling out of the reservoir. i released the pressure off the cap and screwed it back on. i slowly opend it up after 10sec adn the cap literally blew about 6' in the air.

when i changed the oil i pulled the drain plug and there honestly was probly agal of diesel in it. long story short when i got the motor out i had the heads pressure tested, well tried they told me that the pass side head was cracked between the water ports and they couldnt test the drivers side becouse it was warped to much. they said there was cracked injector cups thats y i had fuel in the oil. idk i know when i did drive it, there never was a lack of power. except everynow and again when u pulled out to pass someone when u really romped on it the motor would go into a limp mode. when i cleared the code it would always say large fuel leak detected wehn i did some research people said it was cause of the hypertech chip he had in it. they say they r junk. i know 30grand is alot i just wanted some insight as to if it was worth it or not. the guy form ppe sounded pretty believeable. they said they would rebuild the rearend, put a stage 5 trans in and do all the motor work and ship my truck back. i do consider myself mechanically inclined but never dabled in diesels. ive built some pretty nasty blown z28's, had some fast sleds and one hellavua gsxr1000 but never any duramaxs lol. and like i said where i live up her in ny there isnt neone near by that wants anything to do with it. i mean the chevy garage told me they wanted 4000 to pull the motor. i thought that was a bit rediculous. maybe not but even if i payd myself i didnt rack up 4grand in labor hahah.

30g's for a drive train is just crazy. If it were me and I just had to get that truck going I'd find a wrecked truck with the engine and trans you need and get it from that. Once you get the new engine and trans in it start worrying about modding it. It's amazing what you can do to a diesel with electronics and bolt ons. There's no way I'd start messing with internals of a dirtmax or give anyone 30g's for an engine and trans. Just get it back on the road as reliable as possible and go from there.

Agreed......30k is funkin ridiculous to say the least, of course the ppe guy sounded Like he knew what was up, shoot I can sell a hooker some puss if I had to just to make a dollar. A local junk yard will have ur motor and that Allison that's in there is a tank. If u want balls to push the truck, get the dirty max back in it, and put a decent programmer on it. I had a k&n and a edge programmer on my lbz with a banks exhaust and it would walk all over the new camero Ss. And blow black smoke all in their grill while
Doin it too.

I didn't even notice you still had the trans. Ya that makes it even more crazy to even consider 30 grand for an engine. Just take the easier route and dump a dirt max back in it and go from there. You'll save 25G's and that's a lot of air ride and frieghtliners.

I got my dually 7 years ago, had major plans for but over a long period. After having it for only a month or so my best friend was in it following me to a classic car auction and the left front tire blew out, with a 5/7 drop tire had no where to go so it beat the hell out of my fender and door, I figured perfect time to shave everything after replacing the beat up parts and repaint cuz it had some paint popping off and some idiot had Rino liner sprayed 2 inches down the outside of the bed. Dumbest thing i ever did because I dont have the money to finish it so I should have stuck with the plan! Should have just threw on the new parts painted them and made progress little at a time.

well thanx for the advice bagged u r probably right. instead of dreaming big i guess i should just be working towards the logical way of things. haha ive just been watching hours of youtube and reading thousands of forums and thought it woould b pretty nasty to have a dually like that...

No problem man. It all looks so easy and logical on YouTube lol. When are you gunna tear this thing down?? I'm ready to see this thing coming apart and get modded. What's the game plan for it?? Bagged and back on the road or do you have some bigger plans for it??
