Picked up my latest ride. 1984 chevy single cab dually. It is super rough and needs some immediate attention to drive. I am in the middle of a full tune up and will also have to find a leak in the front brake system to be ready to drive it. Plans will be like 90%you of the forum and bag it. No body drop though. Just get it on the ground and paint it up in the original blue color.

For anyone whp.os thinking it, yes the front guard is staying and will make the truck pretty different from the norm when it is on the ground!

thank you. I got the engine runing quite well today. fresh plugs and wires yesterday and i was still dissatisfied, further inspection today revealed to vacuum leaks. it idles much better! Will get a hold of a timing light soon to make sure it is timed. Next I need to track down a brake fluid leak on the front brake circuit and try and tackle the engine leaks.

What are some of the better valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, and rear main gaskets? Are there any other places i need to look for massive leaks?

The best luck I've had for gaskets is Fel Pro racing gaskets, they are a little more but so worth the money. The line is called perma-seal. The valve cover and oil pan gaskets have a metal core in them so they are reusable and they have a crush sleeve in the bolt holes so they don't get over tightened. Good luck on the truck, there are tons of great builds on here just do a lot of reading.

bought a master cylinder and new front rubber lines in attempt to get the front brakes to hold pressure again. anything else that i should pick up on the cheap brake related besides rear rubber lines? I was just thinking about those as i am typing. gonna have to bleed all 4 corners so might as well do new lines there.

is there a trick to making a 78 tailgate fit on an 84 or is my bed tweaked? the original tail gate wasbent outwards with a 2-3 inch arc. i am thinking the bed is scrap....

and no hemi..... never actually had a hemi. I was a dodge raised kid and i stole that from when the new age hemi first came out with all the commercials.

So i need help! i am trying to fix the brakes on my truck and it is just not happening. I bought a new master cylinder for a c30 with the "8" brakes. This new master cylinder has to be forced onto the booster and I have 1" of pedal travel. I have scoured the web and the most i can find is that i need a different sized rod between booster and master cylinder. I obviously have the wrong master since it is not a direct replacement but visually the master cylinders were identical. I am gonna try and get a look at my old master at the parts store tomorrow if they havent sent it back yet. Any ideas? I am pulling my hair out on this!
