Ok I final got my airbags. I went with 3800's which are a 8.5 diameter. Collapsed they are 3" and extended they are 12". So do I set up the ride height that I want at 9" extended on the bag? That way I can go up or down 3"?

Its on a 04 dodge 3500. I have 22's and only want the front to drop 3-4"and the rear dropped 7-8" from factory. That would give me 1/2 to 1" between the fender and top of the tire. It's my daily driver so I use it for everything and want the lower stance and a smooth ride. But not the hassle of a static and towing heavy payloads.

static drop it and use the bags for helpers in the rear.....

I did a flip kit but running helpers makes the ride too harsh. Bags will make it smooth. That's the whole reason for going bags, more specific big bags. The bigger the bag the smoother the ride.

I guess I'm missing something here.....

You don't want the hassle of a static drop but your going to bag the truck only to have 3" of adjustablity. Your not going to just throw "big" bags on it and be done.

i reread this thread and post several times over. maybe im having off day, but something isnt clicking. let me see if i got this....you want to bag your truck for some adjustability. you dont like the ride of a truck with static drop with helper bags. you installed a flip kit. well, first thing, if you want to bag it the way your talking, you may as well yank that flip kit out and choose your link setup you want. because the only thing you can do with static drop is add bags as helpers as you clearly stated you dont want. you are in fact right about the smoother ride out of larger bag, but whats your plan as far as they go? where you mounting them? this should be a good start to decipher the issue.

I did install a flip kit and removed it. Since the overloads are gone my trailer tended to drop the ass end too much, and with helper bags the ride was too rough. So........ To fix the confusion with my lack of explanation. I am going to install a 4 link and remove the leaf springs. Install a set of 3800 Bags in the rear and a set of 3800 bags in the front and install spring pocket eliminators. I am not trying to lay frame or go with extreme slam. The truck will have the equivalent of 5/8 drop but have the adjustability if the rear payload is more or less from time to time. My original question was since the bags are 8.5 diameter, 3" collapsed, and 12" extended, 9" or travel. At the desired ride height. Do I set the bag so it is at 7.5" (in the middle of the travel? If I purge air out it will drop 4.5" and if I add more air it will raise from the desired ride height 4.5". Do I try to have equal travel up and down? Am I explaining this right?

i know its expensive but the air ride technologies air bar kit is great for what you are looking for. It has a good ride, heavy built and ready to work. It works perfect with a 5" spindle/spring front combo if you are not set on front bags. This is a very dependable option for you.

I already built my 4 link and have all my bags. The fabrication is not a big deal for me. Good looking out though, on the air bar. But what I built, pretty much is cleaner and stronger that the bolt in air bar. I was just asking what is the typical bag installed height and if the placement split the overall travel of the bag. I am also going to narrow the rear end 6" so the 22's will be able to tuck if I wanted them too.
