ive heard of alot of people taking the evap can out but it reduses gas fumes or somthin. i thought there were two hoses and then one like u said for venting. ill go check out mine on my next cigg break.

Thanks man I appreciate it!

im not 100% sure but i think there is one for vent. there were more hoses connected to the evap can than i thought but there was one hangin down and i followed it to a cluster mess and i think it went to the evap can so your problem may lie elswhere. i had a few issues a while back so i unplugged the right side wire harness of the computer and purrs like a kiten. may have to adjust idol a little. i plugged my computer bak in and it took longer to start and wouldnt idol so i keep it unplugged. just incase u decide to try it its under the passenger side kick panel and has a mitsubishi emblem on it. jus sumthin to try.

Computer? On a carbed engine? Wtf

yea thats what i said but they have one hints when an o2 censor goes out it puts the computer in "limp home mode" defaulting the fuel air ratio to ritch. apperantly sum say the capacitors leak acid over time and screw it all up. ive never taken mine apart but people on here say if its got corrossion on any of the capacitors then that could cause it to run crappy too. alota fellas on here talk about it. u can probly find some info.

bad sensors or vacumes can also cause the computer to throw bad codes and "limp home"

Ok, filled it with coolant, replace the pcv valve because it was cheap, started it up and took it out for a drive around the lot. Found the problem...

She was POURING white smoke out of the tailpipe. So much that I could see the accumulation on the ground when I parked it. I popped the rad cap (since it hadn't been running but a minute) and coolant shot out. Also, there is splatter all over the passenger side of the compartment that has an ambiguous smell, much like coolant. there is also fluid inside the air cleaner compartment, towards the EGR side, again, seems to be coolant.

So I'm thinking blown headgasket/cracked block/ or cracked head. Which are most likely, and how hard is that fix going to be? and what other possibilities are there? there isn't an EGR cooler on these engines, is there?

Another thing, can I do an emissions delete on this thing while I have the head off (if it is, in fact, the head gasket) with the stock carb? I'm trying to keep this a beater on a budget.

you could do that with stock carb. i dont know much about it but i hear it doent help much unless you unlplug that ecu computer under the kick panel and retune the carb. i just unplugged one of the plugs on mine without removing the emissions and it helped. but theres alot of threads that probly would help you more than i could. lol id suggest looking into them.

Your best bet would be to perform a good tune up like with any used vehicle. Inspect all of your vacuum hoses, clean egr valve, and carb. Also a great aftermarket carb would be the weber 32/36 if you're interested in an all around reliable carb. Im running the weber 32/36 with the pacesetter headers. My truck is not the fastest. But, is extremely reliable with that setup and you'll love the MPG's.
