Just picked up a 1986 Mazda B2000 LX Short bed with 175k miles on the 2.0 engine. Its a beater, in fairly rough shape, corrosion and lack of vehicle maintenance has taken its toll that is clear. The engine sounds decent and the clutch and shifter feel alright and the frame doesnt appear to be structurally compromised just some major rust bustin and prevention for me to do.
In the process of degreasing and cleaning up the engine and undercarriage currently and giving it the service maintenance its been neglected for so long. Not sure it was ever washed lol.
Needs a passenger window + regulator, Gas tank (if i cant repair), interior seats, (prolly just cover them), ill "ospho" the frame and undercoat it, then fiberglass the rust holes on the body and cut out rotted sections of the bed to weld in some new bed panels and cheap bed spray, Ill top it off with a good old never fail rattle can spray job and it'll be the perfect little parts hauler/winter driver to keep my other ride off the salty corrosive roads of the Midwest. Purchased at $600 I'm not lookin to make it anything but solid and mechanically functional in the smallest budget possible. Ill prolly budget $400 max but hopefully stay below that while fixin it up a bit.
Wondering if there are any specific problem areas I should focus on and look for? Oil leaks from multiple locations but i need to clean the undercarriage to get a better picture of what I'm working with.
What vehicles have compatible components that I can rob from in a salvage yard (engine, body, seats)?
Any good parts websites you guys use, and what reasonably priced repair manual should i pick up for this truck?
I appreciate any and all constructive feed back. Thank you.
