You were civil he fed you his line of bull, time to get the truck. If you have a plan worked out great get it in writing. Unlike Immortal1 this is the guys main income. Hell I would not touch a persons car unless I had it in writing. It protects you and him. Have him sign it and you sign it. (with someone there to back it up) That way he cant say "I did not know I was supposed to to that" or " we never agreed on that". Or better yet "I never said it would be 3 weeks".

This happened to a friend of mine. Some guy had a old truck and wonted it painted. The guy said just to scuff it up and paint over the old paint. My friend said that it needs to come off. The guy said na just paint over it. (he was just out of body school) so he said ok. few months later the paint peeled off. The guy sued my friend for the cost of a proper paint job. Not what he paid him to "just scuff it and spray". From that day forth he got it in writing.

Think of it this way before it was kind of a free job now your paying for it. You are now a customer not just a friend. Good luck and I hope it works out.

on a sidenote If it were me with the bad blood already there I would get it out and cut my losses. I would hate for him to hack your truck and the cover it up and you only find out when it breaks on yea.

Look at the experience as a positive one: 1. u got some experience setting up a shop,2.U did get a job with pay (sort of),3.u did find out something about u r "friend"u didnt know (he can be a dick head), and 4.u can get help from us dudes on th 'Scene when u need it.I would say u came out ok and your friend is going to be the big loser in all this.BJ

1. You are correct
2. I barely scrapped by for 5 weeks ( i quit and looked for a job for 2 weeks)
3. More than a dickhead, I was pretty much used for the entire year. It was always " wait till we get everything in the shop"
4. I have been getting help from here for over 2 years or so lol.

Me telling him 2 weeks was pretty much my final notice on shit. Its sad cause I will probably give in and go get it the more I think about it because it down right pisses me off.

I pretty much took the bed and all the air manage ment off of it, But I want it home so I will put the bed back on get all my air management and put 2 4's under the front end and put schrader valves on the rear.

Im guessing u r pretty young,so one other little bit of insight.Working for a hospice I saw (and still see) folks who carried grudges, feuds, slights, and po'd feelings around with them all their lives. When it came to the end, they had such a sack full of sh-- to empty that they couldnt even die in peace. We teach folks to say the following:"I forgive u,I hope u forgive me.I care for u,I hope u care for me.I love u.Goodbye."Amazing what those few words will do when spoken aloud to another person and are sincere.Think about it.BJ

i went thru the same thing gettin my truck painted. the bodyman, which i work with for a bit, said i drop the truck off sunday and pick it up friday. well it turned into 2 months and i damn near picked it up in primer. im glad i didnt because it looks good but i know i coulda found someone to paint it no problem. but if u say u can backhalf your truck then do it. no point in gettin someone to do something that you already can. i have never painted or prepped a vehicle before nor do i have the place to do it so thats why i left it. but like i said if u can do it then do it. u will be soo much prouder when someone asks "who did the backhalf?" and u can say "I did"

but considering all the tube work that will go into it if i choose that route or if he even does a simple backhalf theres no point in me going and dropping $400 on a welder when I no I will get it for wayyyyyyyyyyy less if he does it.

but how can I forgive someone who pretty much used for me for a year, how can I care for someone when they only paid me as little as much as, they knew I could scrape by on?

Im not holding a grudge against him, and I hate to sound like im bashing your reply on this one but I dont quite understand how your reply fits to my problem.

but like anything thats a little hard to do. If anything I think he should apologize its not about me being a hard ass because I'm not in the wrong on this. How can I forgive someone who caused me to go in debt with my bank? Sure I should do this but in all honesty I wont. I will simply go get my truck get my buddys welder keep doing research, start working on the truck, take lots of pics, and ask lots of questions.
