personally i'd go with the first one you link'd to. its so nice to have the capability of doing thicker material. like V8 said, you'd have to do more prep to get the same result. i know your doin your welding class now, and they'll teach you proper metal fitment and such, (hugely important) esecailly when dealing with an underpowered welder. its one thing to get the pieces to stick together with weld. its another thing completely to get full penetration and look good. i've seen plenty a weld that'll hold up (especially on the rear end of a 3000 lb truck) that look like absolute horse crap. gotta have that extra little bit to force the fill wire into the metal and really penetrate. it just looks better, and you can tell.
