As I will be in the market soon for a new daily driver. Theres a 97.4% chance it will be a truck. My question is whats the recommended vehicle to tow with but still get decent gas mileage?

I been eyeballing 1995 + chevy 1500s.

But would a s-10 with a 4.3 do the job or would it struggle and eventually kill it self lol.

Thanks Guys

Nick

the mazda, its 25 years old and being 25 years old some things may tend to go out and just thinking about driving it for up to 2 hours one way to a show I worry. The motto I pretty much stick with is if you doubt anything at first thought then dont do it.

the 4.3 will pull the truck just fine but the s10 prolly dont weigh enogh to pull safley i tow with my astro its got a vortec 4.3 pulls great.....i'd prolly go with the full size half ton if you dont mind the gas milage.........or go with a pimped out astro ..lol

I have towed with an Astro Van with a 4.3 and a Blazer with a 4.3. Both will get the job done if you have a lightweight flatbed trailer. If you use an enclosed, forget in. I have also used a 1998 F150 extended cab with the 4.6 V8. Had a couple of the usual engine mods done. Pulling a flatbed with the purple mazda was definately no problem. Gas milage w/o trailer was 18+ on the highway. With the trailer it was around 10 or 11. Also, both of the 4.3s were around 10 mpg while pulling.

Hope this helps.

ya its just a regular flatbed trailor, sounds good.

i would check with your local dmv before making any decisions. there are rules and regulations about towing vehicle and trailor weight. the main issue is does the trailor and mazda combined weight weigh more than the truck itself? does the trailor have brakes on it? they are goin to be lookin at does the s-10 have enough stopping power to get it stopped not just on regular driving but in emergencies as well.

i just bought a 2004 ford f150 with a 4.6L and it tows fine. as soon as i got it i had to tow my mother-in-laws 1990 ford taurus back to her. and the taurus weighs twice as much as my mazda. everyone keeps telling me that i should have got a 5.4L or a F250 but i didn't need that. all i need is what i got and it gets better gas mileage than the 5.4 and the f250. most guys around here buy bigger trucks than they will ever need to use and just use it to drive back and forth to work to and get about 16 mpg.
