The JCI I worked at that did the seating is in good shape, they just got screwed out of jobs because of Chrysler and a drop in demand. We had to cut production from 68 Jobs per Hour to 65,and to do that they had to lay off 50 employees. They want to eliminate the midnight shift, but they have a contract with Chrysler's Brampton assembly plant where it has to stay in place till 2009 when the Challenger (LY platform) is released.
The plant I'm at now used to be Blackhawk Plastics, and they were bought out by JCI and now Plastech has taken our GM contract, which is the majority ouf our business. We make all of the plastic interior components for the Grand Prix,Lacrosse and Impala (all the GM Oshawa built cars). We also do the door panels and some other small bits for DCX LX and some small stuff for Nissan.
I've been with JCI since June 2005,and it's too bad that it's a rocky road, because I'm almost at 2 years seniority and slowly climbing the ladder.
From what I can see,it doesn't look so much like it's JCI that is in bad shape,it's their customer companies that are in bad shape. JCI is just a supplier,so they can just as easily pick up a contract as easily as they can lose one, plus JCI is such a huge company too, they don't have much to worry about. The only thing that makes or breaks a JCI product is the assembly stage, and that all comes down to the employees, and the difference between the ones who don't give a shit, and the ones that do. And I say that speaking from direct experience at the seating plant, where I would go in every day and do the job to the best of my ability and have pride in my work. Then,I'd be working next to someone who's doing a sloppy job and the product generally looks like ass,and it gets shipped, whereas if I had been on QC,I'd have rejected it,and then they wonder why we keep getting NC tickets and quality alerts from DCX.
