Western and Southern cars fetch high prices out here. They're usually in better shape than Eastern cars. Pretty much everything Ontario and east is all mangled by salty Canadian winters. When I check the trader,I find that trucks and SUVs carry very high prices when compared to cars. You might see an '87 4Runner with 400 000km and all rusted out and they're asking like $3000 for it,and then you might find a '94 Honda Accord with 220k in decent shape for about the same price.

As for Quebec having the lowest prices? I would think it's something to do with how they are (from my experiences) the worst drivers in Canada, beat the crap out of their vehicles and are just generally very hard on them. Almost any car I see here with Quebec plates on it is pretty beat up and being driven like an Indy car.

You really have no idea how I would love to find a super clean western or southern Mazda to bring up here. Even though my truck is pretty clean for an Eastern truck,a southern or western truck won't have the 15-20 years worth of accumulated rot mine has. I see pics of the guys from the west or south with trucks the same age as mine and the things look like they just left the factory.

My dad and i did this with a couple motorhomes and a tractor. the motorhomes are an easy buck because if you get 70's ones the engines are dead simple and what they need most is a good cleaning/ tune up. As far as cars go in ontario people get cars in ottawa and bring em down to southern ontario where the value is much higher often with no wotk done on em (eg a guy I met bought an '02 Rendezvous for $5000 in ottawa with 250000km brought it here to Woodstock drove it for a couple months and sold it for $12000, rediculous)

i do this just for fun, make descent money to put into my personal car, home repairs, and stuff. flipped 11 cars last year (the limit here is 10 per year, but the loophole is, as long as you register it its considered a non-investment, so i had to register 2 of them). i would estimate i made around $10k just from flipping last year, and i also have a full time job working 52hrs/week.

you just have to be smart about what you buy, and most importantly, KNOW WHAT IS WORTH REPAIRING. i currently have a 89 civic on the market, only asking $1000, but if i get my asking price i will have made $800. i traded a $50 turbocharger, and $35 intercooler for it, not running. took a battery, and fresh gas to make it run. i paid $65 to have it towed to my house, and its been here 3 months.

my best flip was a 94 nissan 4x4 extended cab bone stock, higher miles, but ran pretty well. picked it up for $800 from auction, put $230 in a 3" suspension lift, $150 in 3" body lift, and $430 in a set of 33" mud tires, and sold it for $4200. all in 3 months.

another good one was a 92 s10, ext cab, 4.3 auto bought for $750, ran perfect, but had an intake leak, so water/oil mix. put a gasket set on it $80, sold it for $3000 a month later.

hope this helps.

yeah thats almost exactly what I was thinkin, a good time to sell something like that would be when high school kids are graduating.

I have foudn that the more ricier(if thats a word) cars sell better for more a month before the end of school and 2 months after, 2 months before school starts and a month after, kids always bugg their parents to let them have a car for summer and the ones that didnt get one for summer get one for school.

and sorry about my figuring, I forgot to say that you need to minus the amount your out before your account for your income. I know with it going to be getting warmer soon, I know I can sell my rabbit and I should get what I asking for it.

1983 rabbit conv. $300
German Auto Shop $400
High Flow Cat $150
2 3/4" Exhuast $250
New Top $200
Misc. Parts $200
Total $1,500
Asking Price $2,750
Hoping to get around $2,200-$2,500
Profit of $700-1000

I didnt purchase this car to sell, I wanted it to use as a daily, but I dont want to sell my 2wd, 4wd or my valiant, so this is the only one to go. It was a blast to drive in the summer and for a stock motor, this thing is very fast compared to other VW's I have driven, must be the older lighter body.

4x4's do really well, not only do they attract the younger crowd, but older people like them too, people use them on farms, some older people like them cuase they dont have to worry about ice or snow. but remember with 4wd, do not get too big with the lift, stay under a 35" tire, and pick a four or a small V6 in a small truck. I loved my pathfinder, if I would have went out and got some jeep coils and some lifted upper arms to give it nice 3-4" lift, it already had some nice 31" tires, could have sold it for about 3k but I just wanted out of it so I let it go for 1200.

Nissan and Toyo 4x4's have a pretty good resale without too much question about lifts and running gear, ranger's are the second best, I would say S10's are the third. 4x4 Dakota's are big money, but only apeal to a certain type of person and cost a lot, specially ones with a 318 in them, since they came stock.

hope this helps a little bit, if you have any questions, just ask and I will try and help, I am pretty good at judgeing what people would like, and what something could look like.
