I'll start with saying I have been absent from the forums for a bit now, about a wekk and a half....I have been here but not really repliing to too much, or really paying attention to much going on....And heres why.
I have a newborn sun, as many of you may know, and about a week and a half ago he got a cold(or so we thought). Well sunday night it gets really bad, so up to emergency we go, just to get him checked out and maybe a prescription for an ear infection or throat infection or something, nothing too major. Well we are ther for around 3 hours( not too bad) and finally after a blood test, and Xray, and a nice test where they inject saline in the nose and then suction out all the crap in ther we are told to go home and come back in the morning.
Fine we come back in modnay morning, and are told after a couple hours that he has an infection, no big deal but they admit him to keep an eye on it( he's only 5 weeks old). OK so he's ther for monday, and tuesday I go back to work, and then go home, my son ended up being transfered to a hospital like 35 kilometers out of town. SO my wife stays and I go home to sleep cause I am going to work the next day. No dice, I get a call around 10:30 pm that he has an infection and that it is getting worse and they are thinking about transfering him to Childrens hospital, like 115 kilometers away for closer observation.( well now I am getting a bit worried).
A 1/2 hour later I get a call that they are getting a helicopter in to transport my son, as his infection ( RSV for those who know ) is getting worse and going into his lungs, ( I am now in complete panic, and it just happens that this is one of those nights that I have the work truck at home. Great, so I call the owner of my company, and have him meet me at work to drop off the truck and pick up my car, and then do the drive to the childrens hospital, only to find the helicopter has been delayed for like a half hour and now I am stuck at the hospital, worried sick and waiting for my wife and 5 week old son. They arrive, finally, and my son is whisked into ICU, and we have to wait outside for like a half hour again as they get all of the monitors on him, and an IV in his head, and put him in respiritory isolation. When we finally get in to see him he has like 15 wires and tubes and all that good stuff going into him, including breathing tubes, and probably around 250 00 worth of equiptment helping him breath and monitoring everything. I haven't cried so hard in a while, let me tell you.
Skip a week and he is out of ICU and prgressively getting better, and hopefully will be well enoguh to come home tomorow, and all I can say is I am soooo relieved that he is OK.
Let this be a warning to the parents on here though, what seemed to be a cold was RSV, which turned into a bronchial infection, then progressed into a lung infection, partially collapsed one of his lungs, and slight pneumonnia.
whatever the case I just thank god this week is almost over. Oh and sorry for the novel, but I had to vent.
