Reg unleaded is $3.08 here right now. My truck pings like a mug on it though, so I need atleast 89 or 92 octane which means I pay about $3.18-$3.40/gal .
It pees me off too knowing how much a barrel is now compared with last year. The oil companies are very thankful to Katrina which gave the excuse they've been waiting on to raise prices. Then they saw everyone would pay it and how fat their wallets got, so it'll stay there and prob go higher.
The other thing is, as long as gas is the cheapest option for us to use to travel with, there won't be any need to go to alternative fuels. People here are gonna do the cheapest thing, so until you see fuel above $5/gal, we'll just have to deal with it.
There was an opinion in the news paper the other day, where they've been going back and forth about SUV's and gas prices. The person wrote "If I can afford my SUV then I can afford all the gas I want to use." Something like that anyway. I was like what a ..... Another good ole example of the American mindset imo.
Btw, I won't vote for government healthcare lol. We've got a gov run health facility here, and uh it's on the news right now. How bout the, ahhh I forget the freakin name, the veteran's hospital that's been all over the news for not taking proper care of people. These are prime examples of what we'll have if we let government ran healthcare enter our world as the only alternative. I also new a friend from Canada...been about 13 yrs ago...and she said the Canadian system sucked. Give me privatized healthcare!
