yes indeed. it is a 'poor mans' way to body lift...lol it can be unsafe depending how you do it. i still have to get under the truck and look at it more, but i met and talked to a guy around my town here who has a 93 (i think) mazda b2600i 4x4 truck that is clean, lifted a bit, big mud tires, and has done the hockey puck lift, and been driving it for years.

I know we're all broke here, but you can actually purchase a lift kit made for the truck for around $100. I'd definitely go that way before drilling out hockey pucks my self.

Work on the suspension lift first and then decide if you really need to go higher. I ran 28" tires and had quite a bit of fender clearance with nothing more than tightened torsions up front, (granted they are after market, thicker torsions), and air shocks in the rear.

2 probs with 30"+ tires. Gas mileage and off the line speed. These will both suffer. B2600 at least has gearing to make up for the off the line, but the B2000 and B2200 do not. Be aware of that. I saw a difference of around 3mpg just because of the larger tires and steel wheels...the weight compared to my alloys and small tires was insane.

Find my build thread and you'll see my ride height when lifted.

Did it for you:

Tires were like 225/65/15's I believe, on 15"x8" wheels. I was able to turn lock to lock without rubbing. Any bigger and I would have hit the inner bumper brace. Rode just fine, never rubbed fenders.

There used to be a CLEAN ASS white one from in the Northwest on here. Got broke into and and what not. Sosa did some interior work for it...try to find that and you will possibly find some info as I believe he had it lifted.
Good start on the truck too.

Just a couple I found well doing a quick search on the internet. Don't know anything about any of them.

1hotdog, thanks for the info, i will look into that. i didnt know anyone made anything for a body lift (or suspension lift either), if it's still available, its definitely worth looking into

Thanks for those links there NC, that's not near as bad as I was thinking that it was.
1hotdawg, don't forget that I am (will be) running the diesel in mine as well, my setup is going to be more torquey than the factory Mazda setup. If I find that the gearing sucks too badly, I have the bongo gears sitting in my shop and I can reconfigure the gear ratio to be more favorable for bigger tires (although I would be sacrificing my .701 OD.)
I was contemplating the bigger wheels/tires for colder weather situations in case if I ever do move back up to PA, or if I decide to move to VA or NC. (also considering a plow attachment for mine after what I experienced here in Atlanta lol.)
The diesel would also benefit in a bag setup with an electric compressor. Since it's an IDI diesel, no spark needed, 90% of the alternator could be diverted to the compressor (and 10% for lights at night lol.)
Basically all I am doing is throwing ideas into the tumbler and figuring out which ones will sift out as feasible, plausible, down-right insane (but still gonna do it,) and next to impossible.
