+1 on that - the manifold can be a pain esp. if you break studs.

Your problem cold also be clogged cats - unfortunately the one most often clogged is the upper one.

Just did a smog. The cats are ok. I would have to find a shop to take it out. That's tough here in this state

Backyarders to the rescue.

Outs hard to tell without jacking it up but I think the cat just unbolts right? maybe I could take it out have a muffler shop make me the same length in straight pipe with new flanges and just bolt it right up then when it's time to smog I just change it out?

Or remove entire exhaust manifold back....add header and new exhaust, keep old exhaust for smog

You can take the cat off, knock all the inside out and put it back on. The machine cannot tell if it's in there or not. If your state does not require an emissions test on older vehicles you will pass.

Where I live in Texas my 1990 will be 25 years old next year and no longer require an emissions test. It will still have to have the cats on there but won't have to pass a tailpipe test.

Ya i took it off already

Im doing the kia swap and I think I will leave them on to see if it passes emissions.

I bought a new header and bought the 10 and completely re did the exhaust from manifold back, it's wake up the neighbors, turn heads on the stree loud. If you remove the entire stock exhaust and start from scratch it'll be much louder! Trust me
