you may have kind of hit on something with that cash for clunkers and the fact metal prices are up
scrap yards are paying a little more, and i have noticed through my own experiences and other friends that work in the mechanic business, alot of people have gotten to where when they have any "major" issue with a vehicle(transmission goes out, motor needs rings, rear end gears come apart, somthing like that) instead of paying to have it fixed, or possibly rebuilding/fixing it themselves, they trade it in, sell it as scrape, parts or something along those lines and buy something new.
realistically, a dealer wont give crap for a old b series, so most end up in junkyards, scrap yards, or in someones back yard rusting away.
