Well said Dan.......this is exactly what I was referring to. I have 3 children, all do or did well in school, all have plenty of friends, are very likeable people, and we (the parents) get complimented quite often about how nice they are, blah, blah, blah......I contribute a lot of that to my wife, she is an excellent mother, but I sure wish I could go back in time and change how I bought for them at Christmas and birthdays! We used to get them the video games (when they were kids, we don't buy them for our daughter now as she's the only "kid" now!) that they wanted and asked for at those times......when I was growing up, my parents didn't have enough money to buy their 7 children all the neat stuff that some of our friends would get, and we even grew up without a TV in the house, and were constantly outside all the time. Consequently, when I started MY family's Christmas and birthday traditions, we bought too much for them really and unfortunately the wrong stuff since we were getting video games and such! I wanted my kids to have the neat stuff all their friends would get, and that was wrong to a certain degree as far as I'm concerned now. My two sons play WWAAYYYY too many video games now-a-days.......when they are not working, you can bet their gaming, and I see how much of their time is wasted on that crap, and it makes me realize that I contributed to that, and I don't like that!
BTW, my daughter (12 years old) is playing the guitar right now and singing......that guitar was a Christmas present a couple of years ago! Yeah.......I'm learning.
