I'm going to talk to my dude that can get me body parts cheap about gettin me some 4x4 front fenders. OF course I also wanna get them on asap But to do so, I figure it would also be time to go ahead and primer the truck. Would you agree?

I can't afford to do a lot real fast but things I hope to do to the body are:

4x4 sheet metal
Cowl hood
smooth roll pan, maybe even integrate lighting into it
shave antenna
shave cowl
shave emblems

I don't like the idea of running around with "spots" of primer on a painted truck. lol and I do like primer Problem is, it is a "nice" looking truck atm. My wife would probably complain too, but she don't ride in it anyway, she just won't like it outside in the driveway I'll have lots of people say "why'd you do that?" Of course.

I like the look of the ppg primer, the yellowish stuff, but you can't buy that in a spray can, so everytime I "do" something I'll have to prime it in gray or black typically. So I guess I'd have to go with a full black primer, or gray. When finished and ready to paint the truck will be predominantly white again...I think...with some sort of red graffics. (anyone feel like photoshoppin me something? )

I want to show the truck while under construction, so would the primer be more beneficial there as well? Not that trophies matter, I'm more asking about it actually being accepted in that class.

I want to get the fenders on there so I can then keep these same wheels on it and don't have to worry about hitting the fenders, as I ocassionally do now. I do have 2 Pathfinder wheels if I don't go ahead and use the 4x4 metal.

I know I'll primer it as soon as I find a 4x4 bed for sure!

Or should I just keep all the parts, do all my mods to the parts I'm going to add, and then BAM!! One day just swap it all over to my current ride? Always fun to make a drastic change like that as well

Your truck looks pretty clean. I'd just paint the 4x4 fenders to match, unless you are set on the primer look.

Also, consider using flat paint on top of primer. Primer absorbs moisture and can exacerbate corrosion if left unfinished.

if ure doin all that body work id say go ahead and primer it but make sure you use epoxy primer as it doesn't absorb moisture...personally i wouldnt paint anything until i was sure i was done with the body mods then go ahead and paint the entire truck

What's this epoxy primer stuff? Is it available in rattle cans?

no its not available in rattle cans, Baha used it while doing some work on my truck, what he used was made by HOK i believe and shot from a spray gun

PPG, Dupont, Omni, all paint companies pretty much make epoxy primer. Anything you can get in a rattle can should be sanded back off before you put the real primer on. You can use regular 2k primer while you are doing your spots and such then after you are all done and have blocked the entire truck, use the epoxy. Basically, epoxy primer is sealer. I recomend PPG's DP line of epoxy primers/sealers.

hey bro, nice truck. mine looks like shitola right now but everytime i do something to it i just use rattle can primer. as you can tell from the pics. hopefully in about 2 weeks i will be able to prime the whole truck with epoxy. personally, i would do the mods and prime it, until another mod comes along that you want to do. otherwise you will paint it and be like damn i want to do this. and as far as i know about going to most shows, to be considered under construction i believe that a certain percentage of the truck has to be covered in primer and not painted. good luck man.

you have a clean truck man

just get all the parts together, once you have everything you want, do all the bodywork, slap thenew stuff on andgo straight to paint booth...i regret shaving my fender emblem holes awhile back, i would have rather kept the holes now and just do it when i am ready to paint

aight playa white and 80s graphix arent kickin it anyhow, flat black the bitch with all the new sheetmetal and bag it then it will look fuckin sick!

gotta be 75% primer to be considered underconstruction, good luck with thge build up. they do have other primer colors. i was thinkin of blue or green.
