I really want to primer my truck and do some body work. I dont really want one color primer, but I dont want to usual 2-tone either.
I have been thinking primer Black and primer grey flames, but I have been thinking it might be cool to use color primer, what you guys think would be cool to do?

here is a quick drawing I did, my scanner kind of butchered my drawing, so sorry it looks bad, it looks good in my sketch book.

I wasnt going to rattle can this one, It doesnt look as good and it is hard to get a nice thick coat. I have a gallon of grey primer from when I was going to pain a bug, but I didnt do it, so i figured I might get a flat color paint or primer and shoot the grey over it.
thanks for the feedback,
Mike

Just so you know primer will soak up water. and when you go to paint it will probably have to strip it off so you will have a good base to start with. I would not primer it till you got ready to paint it unless you have bare metal showing in which case primer is better than nothing.

well, I was going to primer over the paint on my truck but looking at it, the paint is in pretty good condition except on one fender, door, inside the bed, top of tailgate(where a plastic bedliner rubbed) and my roof. My roof is horrible. Someone tried to do a repair, someone must have sat on the roof, but they prolly used a whole can of bondo on the roof, and the bondo has split from the sheetmetal which had a huge area for water to run down.

I am thinking of maybe just sanding down the roof and primering it and putting a sealer on it, or getting a small can of the stock color of my truck and painting it on there, masking off the flames and tinting the stock color down some and shooting the flames with that, then take some white and airbrush the edges of the flames. That might be a better idea, washington is pretty wet, my valiant is in primer and has a few rust spots starting, have to get those fixed.

thanks,
Mike

You can epoxy prime the whole thing then do the flames in base clear...then the flames will be shiny and the truck will be semi flat black.

hey mike....since you will be hangin out with the club, we can hook your shit up...we spray our own trucks, and they always turn out dope....we just use a nice tintable sealer primer...it is good for like 3 or 4 years....then again we use enough color pigment, its almost actual top coat..lol we can help you out dude, we have all the gear to spray at my house...just let me know when you want to do it.

awesome, That would be really cool. I took a bunch of copies of my original plain drawing and am filling in different style paint jobs on the copies trying to find what I like. I have always rattled my other cars, but I want this truck to look good, that is why I am planning the graphics out. I want it to look custom even though I havnt got enough for bags yet. not really sure when I am going to be ready to do it, do you paint them inside or outside, it might be better to do it when it gets nice out.

thanks tony, I really appreciate it.

well we were spraing primer when it was warmer outside..but we do have facilities to shoot indoors if we must...primer is forgiving as long as the air isnt to cold and moist
