Aight guys, i did my head gasket and some other gaskets yesterday.
Took me a while but everything turned out fine.
But now the dam thing will not fire????i dont know what the hell is the problem. my friend that has been a mechanic for 20 years said that the timing was off since i pulled the belt of to do the gasket.
So i lined up the mark on the cam pully, and the harmonic balencer pully. still no fire.......
i checked the plugs and there fine, and i checked if i had spark and i do.
i even retarded the distributer and advanced it, still nothing.
Aight guys i am calling on some of you mazda experts, what the hell do i do.
thanks guys.

What is it doing.. rather than not.. are u getting starter? No power what so ever.. or it just wont turn over?

u could have the distributor out 180 degrees, i replaced a dizzy on my topaz and i had the same prob, is it carb or fuel injected? check to see if your getting fuel in the carb, or check to see if u got a pulse from the injectors

ok guys,
first off: the starter is working, whats happening is the engine is cranking over, but not firing up.
second: it is fuel injected, when i pump the gas a bit i can smell the gas in the engine bay. And no there are no leaks, and i made shure to connect everything.
Before the head gasket blew the engine was running great.

Have you checked compression? I know a friend of mine who was doing a Nissan one time and it would not start and come to find out it was the cylinder compression.

mike: what do you mean the dizzy is out 180 degrees?
I never took the distributer out.
Anyways i was looking at the all data computer at my school, and it said you have to line up the mark on the lower gear that is behind the pully with the mark in the case.
The line the cam pully number 1 with the mark in the case.
I did not do this, and i wonlt know if it is on those marks untill i pull the pully off and pull off the timing belt cover.
I will try to check today or tommorow, but i gots to go buy a belt, cause mine is hella old.
Peace thanks guys

if your timming is out of wack then u better stop cranking it over, the valve could be slapping the pistons...... the dizzy is out 180 degrees meaning its backwards, theres a compression stroke and a exaust stroke, your sparking on the wrong stroke, so pull out the dizzy and turn the rotor 180 degrees and put it back in it should work give or take a couple teeth

Shapinoweno, you are missing just one more step after you lined up the crank pulley to the lower belt cover TDC marker and camshaft pulley to the upper marker in the cover behind the pulley.
That one more step is to pull out the distributor then line up the rotor so it is pointing to the number one spark plug button in the distributor cap and mark with a pen or magic marker on the distributor body where the no. 1 plug is situated. You have to take out the dizzy cap. The distributor is held in place to the head with a 12mm hex head bolt.
Good luck and hope you get it running.
