OK, truck has been sitting for a while when i bought it, guy thought it was the coil because it wouldnt fire, well, i bought a coil and hooked it up and no luck. motor turns but still no fire. my truck also is a wiring disaster. the previous owner cut every single wire in sight and i dont know what goes to what. to make matters worse, it has a weber carb on it so i am clueless as to what goes where. PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS RUNNING!!!!!

Heres a pic so you can see what im dealing with. if you see something that goes somewhere, TELL ME!

Did the truck ever run after the Weber was installed?

i dont know for sure but i dont think you need alot of the wiring if you have a weber. I think its fuel in and out. and a wire for electric choke (thats if its a 32/36 dgev) then you will just need the wires for the ignition, starter, and alterntor. Correct me if im wrong here. You sure you have the coil wired up right? Cap and rotor aight? timing?

i know a lot of that wiring can go, i just dont know what. i dont know what kind of weber it is so that doesnt help. i put the new coil on the same as the last one so it should be fine, cap seems alright but its hard to tell if its working, i dont know shit about timing....

can you get me a pic of your engine bay and a close up of the wiring on your coil?

First things first. What you want to do is get that motor running. Then you can start getting rid of the unnecessary wiring from the computerized carburator later.

1. Install a good battery
2. Turn iginition switch to ON.
3. With a meter, check to make sure you have 12V to the ignition coil positive termnal. If no 12V, you have to fix that first.
4. If you have 12V to coil, unplug ignition wire from distributor to coil then put a spark plug on the distributor end of the wire and ground the spark plug to chassis ground.
5. Crank the engine and check for spark. If no spark, distributor pick up coil is bad. If there is spark, then go to next.
6. Check for fuel at the fuel pump output hose that connects to the carb while cranking the motor. Make sure the fuel does not come in contact with spark plug wires or you will see sparks and fuel mix. you know what happens next.
7. If you have fuel and spark, and still does not run, check timing,
8. If timing is correct, and still wont run, check compression on all four cylinders.
9. If compression is ok, and still does not run, check if carb is supplying fuel. Remove and check spark plugs for fuel smell. If there is fuel it will be wet at the tip.

If it starts running, then you can start yanking the excess wiring in the engine bay.

lol i can try well if i were u id go invest in a timing light. buy an inductive one they sell them for 40 bucks

Also if you know there is spark and still wont run, try spraying the carb with starter fluid and see if it runs. If it does, the carb is gunked up or shot.
Hope that helps.
