well guys im in a pickle with what to do. i have a chevy 350 and a mazda 2.2 and both need to be rebuilt, i have no tranny for my truck so whichever way i go i need to buy a tranny......which would u guys think would be good.....my truck is body dropped 3.5 and lays hard so i think the 350 would be nicer when i decide to throw some 20's in the front fenders.....but then again i dont know bout it cause it will be alot more to rebuild then the 2.2 and the tranny would be alot more procey. let me know guys im 1 day away from 18 so im not a baller. lol...but i dont need to get this thing done soon......im bout to buy a street bike for a daily......HELP!!!!! and if anyone has parts in Az let me know......ill buy em.........

I say rebuild the 350, because it will be easier and cheaper to buy parts, or even get a rebuilt short block from your autoparts store, as well as cheap trannys all over the place. The mazda stuff will be crazy expencive. Is the 350 carb or fi? Cause there are a lot of things to make the swap happen.. not just a motor and tranny, and if its FI there are even more parts.

if you want a 4 speed auto for the 350, use the 200-4R version, they have a smaller body than the 700's or 4l60's.

I'd go with the 350.. see if you can get your hands on a corvette 6 speed manual or a richmond 5 speed.. definately not going to be a cheap project no matter how you look at it.. if you want cheap.. dont rebuild.. just call a japanese engine importer and pick up a low mileage 2.2 engine to swap in.. can get one for about $800 US or so. Definately cheaper than rebuilding either of the engines you already have. And sometimes you can score the replacement engines including a transmission. But if you got the cash.. do the 350

the motor is carb......and i think the 350 would look nice with some 20's crammed in there.............and the mazda would be fast as fuck huh

If you are going to go with oversized rims & tires (beyond overall stock diameter) it would be best to increase your horsepower output anyway.. bigger wheels means more drag and it means that your power train has to work harder to get the wheels spinning to begin with. If you were to put 20's on your truck with a stock engine & trans still in the truck.. you would notice a definite power loss. Wheel weight can also make a noticeable difference. Might want to weight your stock setup (rim & tire) and compare that to the weight of the rim & tire combo you are considering doing. Small differences in weight wont be noticeable.. but a 10lb per wheel difference will definately be noticeable. Cheers

yaya, i would go with the 350, one of the main things everyone complains about the mazda trucks is how there is no power to them. i think in the long run you will be much more happier with the bigger and more powerful engine.

my old mazda had a 350 in it, with chevy suspension, i'm fixin to put a 350 in the mazda i have now

well would it be safe on a body dropped truck? i know i would be the kinda guy that would floor it and go sideways and lay the body out.....HAHA yea i know.....but i figure if ur gonna do it.....go all the way right?

I still think a 3.4 or a 4.3 with a camaro 5 speed is the real ticket in the Mazda's. 200 horspower is more than enough for them to be daily driven, and easier on the tires.
