Well it looks like the valve seals are toast on this less than 40k mile engine. Man I hate used engine importers.. such scum bags. Glad I got it running before the warranty ran out.. the part of the warranty that I like is where they phrase that the warranty will cover either a replacement or repair.. but not any labor involved. The engine runs great and has excellent compression scores so its possible the seals just hardened up from the engine sitting so long.. but I find this unlikely in a engine that has supposedly less than 40k miles on it. It doesnt smoke when warmed up or when driving in the slightest.. but if it sits for more than 2 hours.. it will smoke on start up then. Morning startup after its been sitting overnight.. holy shite!! At cold start up this motor smokes more than a Hippie Van at a Grateful Dead concert!! Anyway.. she is running great and has lots of power (more than I expected by far) and everything seems to be ok with it except the morning smoke.. so I will probably yank the head off and let the Importers repair it.. I should repair it and charge them for it. But at least she is on the road finally

Ok.. apparently its not as bad as I thought.. looks like maybe one of the oil control rings was sticking.. or the valve seals are softening up and doing their job again.. cause the smoking at cold start is becoming almost non-exsistant now.. So I am a happy camper.. Still not pleased with the place I bought the engine from.. but thats another story

sweet man, so where did you get the engine from and for how much?

I got the engine from a place in Auburn Washington called "AOne Japanese Engines" It was after tax $650. It came with a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty which ever comes first. But due to financial issues.. It took me 11 months just to get it in the truck. It seems to be running fine.. has plenty of power.. barks all but 5th gear

But I still have a couple of issues with AOne Japanese Engines based on their service. I drove down there on a Saturday with my bro in his truck to get the engine. This is a 1.5 hour drive for me. Only to find out that their Forklift driver doesnt work on saturdays.. so they couldnt load the engine into the truck for me.. Gee.. do you think they could have told me that on the phone before I drove down there? Second.. I got to inspect the engines they had on hand that were considered swap in replacements for my B2000 engine. I found one that I liked.. did a compression test on it.. it was nice and clean and was identical to my engine. I told them that was the one I wanted.. they said no problem it would be delivered to a destination of my choosing within 100 miles free of charge. So I had them deliver it to my uncles machine shop. 3 days after it was delivered.. I finally got a chance to get to my uncles shop.. by which time he had already dissassembled the engine to inspect it.. thing is.. its not the engine I picked out.. instead they delivered this grease ball of an engine that I didnt even see in their warehouse when I was down there to begin with. Not only that but.. apparently.. its not the same year or casting since the waterpump housing is completely different.. we tried to run the numbers off the block.. but we havent been able to determine what vehicle this engine came out of.. closest guess so far is a 95 J-spec Kia Sportage. At least that is what timing belt fit the engine properly. It appears to be a good engine at least at this stage.. but I sure wont be doing business with them again. Around here in the seattle washington area.. there are dozens of japanese engine importers. This place wasnt the least expensive either. But they had 7 engines to choose from so that is why I went there to begin with. But they wont be getting my business again.

I'm curious, what other engine places are cheaper around here?
