When I was looking for an engine.. I checked online and in the Little Nickle. Do yourself a big favor though if you plan to buy a used engine. Learn from my mistakes.
1) Never buy a used engine from someone that doesnt understand English!! (Assuming english is your primary language)
2) Buy it local to where you live. Often you can get lucky and score one off of e-bay or something dirt cheap.. and thats not so bad. But if you are going to shell out $600+ for an engine.. even if it costs a bit more than something another 50 miles away.. trust me.. spend the extra $$$ and buy the engine from someone close by to where you live. This way if you have any issues.. you dont have far to go to take the engine back.
3) Be wary of any used engine seller that wont let you pick out which engine you want or.. wont let you pick up the engine yourself. That was the trick A One engines pulled on me.. Told me they would deliver my engine (the one I picked) and then delivered something else entirely. If they wont let you inspect the engine.. tell them to take a flying leap and take your business elsewhere.. if they wont let you inspect it.. they have something to hide.
Best of luck.
