Hahaha, So true. All of those are good choices, but the 302 is the easiest. Like Mark said, the distributors are in front and it just makes it so much easier. Parts are cheap, theres lots of options, and are easy to find.

As for the rad, mine was stock. Ran between 190 and 200 degrees in the summer. If you beat on it hard it would get up to 210 with the heater on. I'd do an aluminum rad and get yourself a full set of gauges to monitor whats going on.

The stock Mazda radiator? I have a aluminum 240 sx rad with and electric fan haven't beatin it to bad to get it to hot yet still hopping it will stay cool...

Yea man, stock rad with 2 ecectric fans. They were set to come on at about 185-190. The hotter that motor was, the faster it was. I'm not a motor guy, and have no idea why but when it was running a little over 200 it had instant power, and just launched. Everything just seemed smoother and faster.

about how much does an engine swap for my mazda cost? thinking about the 302 or 350. and then what about a ford probe turbo?

Depend on if you do it yourself, if you rebuild, performance parts, etc. For my 302 conversion I bought a mint mustang with no doors, suspension or interior for $1000, I think it had 80 000KM or 55 000 miles. We pulled the motor, tranny, wiring and some brackets and then sold the body for $500. Had the motor and tranny rebuilt with some performance parts. I think that it was about $2500-$3500. Then a painless harness about $300. Then I would say at least another $1000 for the driveshaft, fluids, motor mount kit, computer chip, MSD IGN, B&M shifter, K&N filter, electric fans, and a bunch of other shit that I'm forgetting. So thats a total of around $5000 canadian ($4200 USD)with no labour or exhaust, but I rebuilt the motor and tranny when it would have been totally fine just the way it was. I would say that you could do this for $2500 complete(or $2100 USD). Just take your time finding the donor car.
