Ticking.....

I have had this odd ticking noise coming from my motor. It doesnt really hurt nothing, I've driven it for almost a yr. with it. It almost sounds like it isnt getting enough oil & the lifters are ticking.

I used to own an old beat-up Ford & thats when i knew to add more oil, it would make the exact same sound. lol

It has 142,000 on it. It doesnt really smoke except for cold mornings & it runs fine other than the ticking. Any ideas on what to check or what it might be??

the good ol' famous mazda lifter tap, time to get new lifters or just have the head rebuilt get a valve joba dn new lifters, i can get lifters for a pretty good price, 8 lifters for $75 shipped if anyone needs them they are brand new and gauranteed

87's had manual lifters, not hydraulic...you have to adjust em

i tried to adjust mine but they were so badly mushroomed there was no adjusting them i had to replace them

my motor does it all the time. i just put 30 weight oil in it to shut it up

My truck does the same thing. usually it starts ticking when its cold outside when i start it up in the morning.. I usually just turn it off and count to 10 and start it up again and most the time it goes away..if that doesnt work i just put some oil in her..

That's a pretty good price. The last time I bought them from an import parts in 1997, it was already $25 a piece.
