it was a joke man, dont come on here talking shit, if you read my post i said get a valve job, which would include valve seals, do you even know what a valve job is?? why do valve seals and not have the valves checked and resurfaced or replaced if needed, that makes a lot of sense, take the head apart and dont do preventative maintenance, i bet you wold tell him to put his old timing belt back on too, and no need to replace the water pump for $35 while your right there and have it all apart right smart guy

no need for shit talking, learn how to take a joke

Easy now. maybe I should drain my oil and run 12 quarts of honey. do you think that might work?

How am i talking shit i just asked a question, If it runs fine and everything it's probably either ings or valve seals, It's not hard to replace the valve seals or even check them. You don't need a valve job if it's just the seal, I've seen atleast 5 mazda's get the seals changed and not smoke agian There rubber they get worn alot easier then a valve.

Yep, mine was smoking a bit. After I replaced the valve seals, it stopped smoking at start ups.

To replace just the valve seals, you will need to
1. have an air compressor and a spark plug hole air adapter to pressurize the cylinder and keep the valve from falling inside the cylinder.
1. get a valve spring compressor and remove the valve springs and keepers one valve at a time
2. once the valve springs are removed, you can start prying up the old and hardened valve seal amd replace with a new one. To remove the valve seal, I just use a bent 8-inch needle nose pliers to pry it out.

In short, to replace the seals, is still a lot of work and you need tools.

Guy's I know it could be rings or valve guide seals or a combo of both. But as notorious as I've known these trucks to be for smoking but still running good,Iwould like to hear any knowledgeable advice, thanks. Also maybe I should be more descriptive My truck has 275,000 miles which appear to be easy driven. you would'nt believe it to look at it. any way it smokes pretty bad after sitting for a day or 2 when it first starts. but the more you drive it it will idle and purr with little if any noticeable smoking.I'll do a compression test tomorrow and go from there.

most important part is the compressor like said above...if you dont have one, then you're better off pulling the whole head off and replacing the valve seals that way, but while it is off, go ahead and do a visual inspection of the valves and seats

what color is the smoke when it starts up?

heavy white with NO coolant odor.

you may want to look into a refurb motor or a good used lower mileage one, hate to see you put work in to the top end just to have the bottom go out, she got her use out of those 270 some thousand miles, lol

Yeah I'll really never know till I tear it down. but for a grand or so I'd rather do it myself.
