welcome to the forum!

how many miles are on your '86 motor?
sounds like you need to put some new valve
seals in (@$80), and adjust the valve lash.
that should stop the smoking. if it has extremely
high mileage, you may want to look into putting
new piston rings in also.

oh, consider your cherry popped!! haha just kid-n

hope this helps out your prob.

lol you might wanna look into a new head gasket, keep us updated, does ur truck get really hot when u run it, and then get real cool real fast when u shut it off, if it does im 100% sure u got a blow head gasket im in the process of all this shit, mine blew 3 weeks ago

My 86 does that when i start it up after a few min it stops and is good to go all day its mostly likly the valve seals like Nytrdr24 said thay wont hurt anything just check your oil once a week

my vavle seals were ging bad when mine started doing that, could be those...

it its during the start up i wouldnt worry about it prob just some condensation in the engine due to cold weather. if your valves were leaking it would be burning oil and it would be grey. hopefully its not the start of a headgasket but its a possibility

Mine does the same thing sometimes. Sounds like you are running too rich. The smoke would be a blue if you were burning oil. I woulden't worry about it too much if it goes away after a while.

White smoke is burning anti-freeze probably either need a head gasket or the heads cracked, Somewhere anti-freeze is getting threw, check ur dipstick for anti-freeze...

also check to see if if your loosing coolant, or if u remove the rad cap and start the car, and coolant shoots out of the rad then for sure the head gaskets gone and/or the head, if u check your oil and its foamy and light brown/tan color then there is coolant in the the pan,get the thing fixed asap the coolant will kill the main bearings

yep just like i said, if ur truck goes from extremely hot while running then let it sit turned off for 5 mins and its almost cold you got a blown head gasket like midnight mike said, he helped me determine mine, plus i just got down re-doing the head gasket on mine, and i re-surfaced the head and i got everything back together but its like my try wants to stall after i tap the gas and the engine shakes im hoping its a vacuum hoses
