theres not much u can doo but to get a bit of horse u can turbo it with 89-92 ford probe or mazda mx-6 parts if you need any more information on that theres a few of us that know tucnrim2004 (i believe thats his user) or slammedmini469 they would proboly know i little better then me but that would give u some horse maybe aroudn 40-50 or soo not sure

i have never done it, but have researched it.

if u get the engine from a 89-92 probe/mx-6 non turbo, and use the turbo/intake system from the turbo models, it supposed to give around 165 HP, which is (i think) 20-25 more than a normal turbo motor, and that is do to the slightly higher compression.

thats with all stock parts, if you were to fab up a equal length header, port the head, turn up the boost, normal turbo upgrade shit, i would say 225-250 HP would NOT be out of reach, i have heard of people running 20-25 psi of boost (for short periods of time) on the turbo engines...

but when you start putting that much power into a mazda, i have a feeling the transmission would curl up and die.....BUT, if you could build the trans, or find something you could adapt (with an adaptor plate of course) then 250 hp would dang near be enough to outrun a lightning....HP/WEIGHT ratio kicks ass

good luck

I HAVE MY MOTOR IN THE MACHINE SHOP RIGHT NOW BEING BUILT.
I HAVE A DYNO 2000 COMPUTER PROGRAM WHICH SHOWED TO TO
HAVE @ 190 HP TO THE FLY WHEEL WHEN IT GETS DONE, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE WITH IN 3% OF THE TRU HP. WHICH WITH 190 HP AT THE FLYWHEEL IF YOU TAKE OFF 15% FOR LOSS THRU THE DRIVE LINE YOUR LOOKING AT 161.5 HP TO THE GROUND. BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, I GOT MY CAM FROM FAST FREDDYS, ALL THEY DO IS TAKE A CAM AND SEND IT TO DELTA CAMS IN TACOME WASHINGTON, AND HAVE THEM REGRIND IT TO 260 OR 270 DEG. DURATION W/ .420 VALVE LIFT.
I GAVE $338 FOR THE CAM AND HYD. LIFTERS, CHECK ON E-BAY I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR CAMS FOR LESS THAN $200, I ALSO HAVE HEARD OF A PLACE CALLED COLT CAMS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA THAT DOES THEM ALSO. MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TAKE YOUR CAM TO A COMPETENT PERFORMANCE MACHINE SHOP, AND IF THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO REGRIND YOUR CAM TO WHAT EVER SPECS YOU WANT. THEN I WOULD HAVE IT CRYOGENICLY TREATED (RUNS @ $75) THIS WILL STRENGHTEN IT. THE OTHER OPTIONS ARE LIMITED, AND WILL TAKE A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY, BUILD A TURBO SETUP (BUNCH OF CUSTOM FABING AND ONE OFF PARTS) OR STAY NATURALLY ASPIRATED, AND BORE OUT THE MOTOR AND INCREASE THE COMP. RATIO (EITHER BY CUSTOM PISTONS OR SHAVING THE HEAD) INCREASING YOUR VALVE SIZE (INTAKE & EXHAUST) AND SOME PORTING AND POLISHING ON THE HEAD. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ALREADY HAVE A GOOD START WITH THE HEADER AND WEBER, IF YOU HAVE THE 32/36 YOU WILL HAVE TO REJET IT BEFORE YOU DO TOO MUCH TO THE MOTOR, AND IT WILL ONLY SUPPORT UP TO 130-150 HP AT THE FLYWHEEL, OR GO UP TO A 38 WEBER WHICH WILL SUPPORT MORE HP.

JUST SOME SUGGESTIONS AND POINTERS..

with out a new intake manifold it is said that you wont ever get over like 130 hp and i think its prob true cause i already have a jacobs icepack ignition a port and polish raised up the compression by means of new pistons and had it bored a mm over as well as polishing all my internalsdecked the head and milled into the piston a touch and all that bs 3 angle valve grind the only think that i dont have yet is a cam. and its so dog slow. still if you want hps or ft lbs throw in a new motor instead of even trying it. id be suprised if you can hit 180 hp naturally aspirated hell even with nitrous i may just shit a golden egg unless you do something about the intake manifold least thats what i was told the problem is

mazdapastor,

also a couple of other things to keep in mind, less rotating weight = less hp loss, you can also get a lightweight flywheel (stock 29lbs-fidanza alum 9.5 lbs), and loose the stock clutch fan for and electric (less drag). i have also heard of swaping a probe/mx-6 main pulley for the b2200 this will loose a couple of lbs also, and i think get rid of the a/c as well. another thing would be upgrade your ignition to an jacobs, accel, msd, or something of that nature. yes the intake is restrictive, and there is a point that without nitrous or a turbo/supercharger that you can't get any more power with out forcefeeding the motor or swaping out the intake, but it can be polished & matched to the head, and with larger valves+cam a definate increase over factory can be seen. it is just what your willing to sink into the motor, time and money wise to get what the hp your looking for.

NYTRDR24, how well are you expecting your transmission to hold up?

also, is the fidanza flywheel made for b-series' or is it for a probe/mx-6?

also, if anyone is considering going turbo, check out , they have a few perfomance goodies for mx-6's and probes

they also have a tubular exhaust manifold with a t3 turbo flange, so you could piece togetehr your own turbo system, but then you need major fuel system mods (like megasquirt or something....)

SlammedMini469,

I HAVE READ SOME STUFF IN THE MAZDATRUCKING.COM FORUM ABOUT THE TRANNYS, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE OK EXCEPT FOR THE EARLY MODELS WHICH HAD A PROBLEM WITH A RETAINER ON THE REVERSE GEAR. I WOULD SAY THAT AS LONG A I DON'T GO OVER 200 HP I'LL BE OK, THE RX-7 RAN ECENTIALLY THE SAME TRANNY AND THEY HAD TWICE THE HP OF THE B2200'S, MY ONLY CONCERN IS WITH THE 2-PIECE DRIVESHAFT, AND NOT HAVING THE REAREND LOCKED UP, BUT I'LL DEAL WITH THAT AFTER I GET IT GOING.
THE FIDANZA FLYWHEEL IS P/N 161221 IT FITS 626/MX-6, AND I GOT IT FROM IMPORTPERFOMANCEPARTS.NET FOR $319, I LOOKED AROUND, AND THAT WAS THE CHEAPEST I COULD FIND IT.

you could always make a driveshaft i mean shit your droppin enough green that another 300 aint gonna matter ya know. and the rear i dont know man i think your gonna get some pretty nasty wheel hop i know mine used to like crazy. some one used to make a lsd for us but i forget who it was. you may be better off getting the ford nine off a ... fuck dude i cant remember what it was but something from 82? had the same width. that makes things a lot easier. for some reason tourino is in my head but i forget. i cant wait to see you blow a set of tires off the rims man. you better make a video of that shit. for real. also me and a buddy were talking about making new intakes im a machining fool but i dont know too much about what we need to change gonna take a little studying to get right
slammedmini469   +1y
should make some intakes that would allow a 4 barrel carb to be mounted on a mazda....

holley makes a 390 cfm 4 barrel.......
