it would be nice if a real brand like comp cams or crane cams made a camshaft for mazda's

pancaked,

YEAH I USED TO GET WHEEL HOP WHEN IT WAS FACTORY, IT IS GOING TO BE FUN TRYING TO GET IT TO HOOK UP, LIKE I SAY THOUGHT I JUST WANT IT RUNNING AGAIN, FINISH THE BODY, THEN I WILL WORK ON A RX-7 TRANS SWAP, 1-PIECE DRIVE SHAFT, AND A 4 WD LOCKING YOTA REAR WITH A DRUM TO DISC SWAP.

ON THE INTAKE YOU WOULD WANT TO KEEP THE STOCK MOUNTING PATTERN FOR THE CARB TO KEEP FROM HAVING TO DRAMITACALLY CHANGE THE THROTTLE LINKAGE. THE DOWN SIDE IS THAT THERE IS COOLANT PASSAGES THAT WOULD HAVE TO HOOK UP ASWELL. I THINK SOME SHORT PIPES WITH AN UP CURVE TO GIVE IT A "HIGHRISE" AND STRAIGHTEN OUT THE FLOW PATTERN YET KEEPING THE CARB LEVEL, THE FACTORY ONE IS VERY FLAT (FROM CARB MOUNTING FLANGE TO BOTTOM OF THE INTAKE PASSAGE IS LIKE LESS THAN AN INCH & VERY RESTRICTIVE) I HAVE ALSO READ SOMETHING ABOUT HARMONICS AND THE INTAKES, WHERE THE FLOW GOES WITH THE FIRING ORDER OF THE PISTONS AND CANCELING OUT A STANDING SOUND WAVE, I WILL DO A LITTLE LOOKING, AND SEE IF I CAN FIND AN EXAMPLE, SOMEONE MAKES AN INTAKE THAT CLAIMS TO DO THIS.

SlammedMini469,

AS FAR AS A 4-BARREL HOLLEY IF IT FLOW 390, WHY WAIST THE FUEL, THE 38 WEBER IS SUPPOSED TO FLOW 390 CFM ALSO, AND WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME BENEFITS W/ BETTER FUEL CONSUMPTION?
slammedmini469   +1y
nytrdr24 - true, but if anyone had BIG hp goals......the same intake would take a 500-whatever is the biggest carb.....

mazdab2200=bestimportruck - pretty much any performance machine shop could regrind your cam to whatver you wanted....hows that mazda drifting coming along?
mazdab2200=bestimportruck   +1y
its parked for winter lol and its not like im in drifting circuits i just fuck around lol
nytrdr24   +1y
YEAH I HEAR YOU IT WOULD BE NICE IF COMP CAMS OR SOMEONE DID MAKE BRAND NEW ONES, THE PROBLEM WITH REGRINDS IS THAT IT WEAKENS THE CAM, THIS IS WHY I SUGGESTED GETTING IT CRYO TREATED TO STRENGHTEN IT.

YOU CAN GET DEMON & HOLLEY DOMINATOR 4-BARREL CARBS THAT FLOW WELL OVER 1000CFM, BUT HOSE ARE FOR 1000 HP SETUPS. I WOULD SAY WITH OUR TRUCKS AND LIMITED AMOUNT OF OPTIONS FOR HP WITH THE 2.2L OR 2.0L, IF YOU ARE GOING FOR MORE THAN 200 HP, IT WOULD BE BETTER TO RUN A FUEL INJECTION SETUP, INSTEAD OF THE CARBS.

I DID SOME HUNTING AND COULDN'T FIND THAT X-OVER MANIFOLD. WHERE OUR INTAKE RUNNERS GO TO THE SAME CORRESPONDING CYLINDER, THE ONES ON THIS ONE WERE PAIRED 1 & 3, 2 & 4 THIS WAS DESIGNED TO HAVE SOME SORTA EFFECT ON SOUND WAVES IN THE ENGINE. IT ALL GOT A LITTLE MORE SCIENTIFIC THAN I WANTED TO KNOW (WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET A PHD TO WORK ON A CAR I'LL QUIT) WHEN I GET A LITTLE MORE
PRACTICE WITH MY WELDER, I MIGHT TRY TO MAKE A NEW MANIFOLD.

i dont get how they regrind it... like how do the make the lift bigger and the duration longer by grinding it.. can someone explain??
nytrdr24   +1y
go to they have some stuff on there explaining the regrind process and some helpful hints about cams, timing, etc.

check out the link on the first page. they said a PGT engine is good for 20 PSI of boost, but the stock turbo isn't.
slammedmini469   +1y
people at ProbeTalk said a stock Probe GT should put out 200-220 hp at 16 PSI of boost with the stock turbo, and even more with a t3 turbo at the same PSI because its more efficient.

so...200 hp would be a pretty easy number to shoot for with all bolt on parts (PGT engine is a bolt in other than a few things....intake has to be cut and flipped and the firewall needs some clearancing for the distributor)......would just require some damn good tuning to keep it reliable.....

would wanna turn the boost down for daily driving, but it would be pretty cool to be able to run with a lightning for 1/4 the cost and 2x the gas mileage
