ok, i was not making fun of your grandfather, i was making light of your comment to reuse them and just add a couple of lbs of torque & since you were telling me I was an ass for suggesting to dimotorsports to use new bolts. he asked for our opinion, and i gave him one, but i guess its sorta like the ole saying goes opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. if you go to any performance shop, or any engine shop they will reccomend new bolt / studs for you to use instead of reusing the old ones, there is a reason behind this, old bolts won't hold near as good because they have been through many stress cycles, which stretches the bolt / stud, which could lead to them breaking or loss of compression. as bad as the heads are on these trucks about cracking and warping, the last thing i would do would be put an old bolt in and take a chance on it warping or cracking because of a worn out bolt that didn't do what it was engineered to, which if you want to take a chance and re use them, more power to you, but if it were my engine, that i was spending my money an time on, i would want it done right the first time! now that being said, it isn't my motor, and i was just suggesting to him to use new ones, and wanted to make clear up front that i wasn't trying to be an ass......as baha says on the front page, if you are going to post on tech article only provide acurate information, which is what i did.
where you say that burnt oil in a new motor isn't the same as nuts and bolts, you must be saddly mistaken, cause it takes the nuts and bolts to hold it together properly, and the oil to keep friction from tearing it down so you don't ruin it, so yes it was a good analogy.
now on to the stock motor, it is a stock motor...not a turbo, not a v8, it came in the truck, so yes it is a stock motor, and yes i will have it modded to make almost 200hp...............nuff said
my apologies to all else who read this rant
