yay. Oil leak. '89 B2200, exactly 80 000mi (130k KM) on the clock. Looks to be coming out around my crank pulley. Switched to 10w30 oil and used a bottle of engine stop leak to see if it would slow down,or cure the leak. 5 days later and she's still leaking, albeit a bit slower than before, but still enough to worry about.

obviously this means the main oil seal has failed and needs replacing. I figure I may as well fix it now while I've still got some cash and blow it all on mods and then kill my engine because of an oil leak because I didn't fix it.

Anyways, approximately how much of a PITA is this job to do,and how much should I expect to spend on parts, and how long should it take?

Info greatly appreciated guys, because I'm not looking forward to doing this job. Should I try running some more stop leak through it first?

SOUNDS LIKE THE LEAK COULD BE COMING FROM THE OIL PUMP, IT IS LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE BEHIND THE CRANK PULLEY.

YOU COULD PROB CHANGE IT WITH THE ENGINE STILL IN THE TRUCK, BUT IT WOULD BE EASIER IF IT WERE OUT GIVEN THE LOCATION. IF IT IS THE OIL PUMP, DEFF KEEP AN EYE ON THE OIL LEVEL AND TEMP, IF IT ISN'T PROPERLY COOLED OR LUBED, YOU COULD RUN INTO MAJOR PROBS.

ether the front seal of the oil pump housing cracked. the 92 i got had the pump housing cracked. its not a hard job dont even have to pull the Rad out. but if your gone do that might as well replace the timing set as well as the front seals top and bottom a new oil pump cost me 150 at napa

Well I started up the truck this morning and did it ever puff blue smoke like mad. We're talking pretty much smoking the neighbours out of their house.

Anyways,I went to my mechanic, ordered a complete seal kit,and he's going to basically rebuild my cylinder head, and install all the new seals. He said if I was getting that much smoke,I've got a valve problem too. So,hopefully by Monday it'll be fixed,I'll be broke, and my truck won't die.

I took the truck in and had all the seals replaced. They rebuilt my cylinder head, ported and polished it for me and tuned my carb a bit and the truck runs absolutely fantastic. It's smoking like a french whore at start up,but the more I start it after running Lucas through it,the less it's smoking. It seems to be clearing up,and should hopefully be gone by the end of the week.

So,$500 later,I'm broke,but my truck is fixed.

SO YOU SPENT $500 & HAD THE HEAD REBUILT
AND ITS STILL SMOKING? I HOPE THE LUCAS OIL
TREATMENT WORKS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU COULD
HAVE SOME RINGS GOING BAD ON THE PISTONS.....

It's now Thursday night,I picked the truck up Tuesday, and I'm running Lucas and that engine honey stuff in it and the smoke situation hasn't gotten any better. We're not talking about little puffs of smoke, this looks like a bonfire coming out of the back of my truck.

I think it's a bad ring, but the truck runs so perfectly smooth as it is. It runs better than when My mechanic gave me till Monday to see if the smoke clears up,and if not, then I guess we'll have to attack the bottom end. Not what I really want to do,but if it's gotta be done....

Can we leave the engine in the truck to do the bottom end? Looks like we just need to remove the cross members under the truck and drop the pan.

oh yeah, and i posted before that the smoking was going away.....it's not. it's not getting any better, but not getting any worse. it's just a constant stream of white and/or blue smoke, even when completely warm.

DUDE I HATE TO SAY, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR RINGS ARE GONE....

yep,that's what we've been figuring.

Lovely, considering it's only got 80 000 miles on it. Man,I'm glad I've got some money left over.
